The City of Mountain View will have its next council meeting tonight, February 24, 2026. It begins at 5:15pm with a closed session on real estate decisions. This meeting is in person at City Hall (500 Castro St, Mountain View, CA 94041), but you can also join the meeting online on zoom or by dialing (669) 900-9128 and entering Webinar ID: 843 5126 7142.

We will then have a proclamation recognizing American Heart Month and the winners of the Santa Clara County Synopsys Championship Science Fair before going to the consent calendar. Consent calendar items can be passed with a single motion. This could include second readings of ordinances, contracts, reports to council and non-controversial items. The agenda items on the consent calendar are:

4.1 Approve Minutes
4.2 Adoption of Legislative Platform for 2026
4.3 Thompson Mini Park, Project 26-35-Professional Services Agreement
4.4 Miramonte Pump Station Improvements, Phase 2, Project 23-43-Appropriation and Construction Contract Award

Item 5 is open public comment where people can speak on any topic not on the agenda. I plan on limiting all public comments tonight to 1.5 minutes per person.

After that item, we have our big items of the night.

6.1 - New Business: Automated License Plate Reader Contract

6.2- New Business: Fiscal Year 2025-26 Midyear Budget Status Report and Adjustments, Fiscal Year 2026-27 Preliminary General Operating Fund Forecast, and Fiscal Years 2025-27 Council Work Plan: 6-Month Project Update

7.1 - Public Hearing: Small Business Streamlining and Other Minor Zoning Code Updates

Whether you are celebrating the BenitoBowl or the Superb Owl 🦉, downtown Mountain View is a great place to hang out. Our local businesses (including a new business!) had a bunch of fun activities all weekend long. I had my first ribbon cutting as Mayor for an artist collaborative called "Don’t Eat Me" yesterday.

A of one of my first duties as Mayor! Last month, I got to swear in the new Fire Chief for our city! Brian Jones was promoted from Deputy Fire Chief at the beginning of this year and now serves as the 20th Fire Chief of the City of Mountain View. 👨‍🚒

Into my first month as Mayor, I got thrown into my first controversy. Although I have a lot of personal feelings about the situation with Flock, I needed to put that aside and speak for our city. For now, the most important pieces of information are that the cameras are off and the council will be voting on it at the February 24th meeting. I hope this gives our residents and stakeholders ample time to let the council know how they feel about the cameras and what we should do moving forward.
