Happy Birthday to our incredible Animal Control Officer, Jennifer Carter! 🐾🎂 Today we’re celebrating the person behind so much of the lifesaving work at the Mountainair Animal Shelter! ❤️

Jennifer works tirelessly to care for the animals who come through the shelter, reunite lost pets with their families, help animals find new homes, and handle all of the unexpected situations that come with being an ACO (often wearing more hats than most people ever see).

We are incredibly grateful for her dedication, compassion, and everything she does for Mountainair’s animals and our community.

Meet the ADVENTURE LITTER! 🐾🏔️ These seven little explorers are officially searching for families of their very own!

Mama is a small terrier mix, and dad is… well... your guess is as good as ours! 😂 Because of that, we can't promise exactly how big these babies will get or what breeds might be hiding in their family tree. What we can promise is that they are 100% certified puppies: playful, curious, goofy, busy, and ready to learn everything there is to know about being a very good dog.

Fortunately, mama dog is already getting spayed through the Her Last Litter program thanks to Friends of Estancia Valley Animals (FEVA)! Plus, each puppy's adoption fee includes a voucher to get them fixed at Western Trails Vet in Edgewood, NM!

Say hello to Miss Kesha! Kesha is our longest resident (aside from Paw Paw).

She came in as a wild woman... to say the least... Manners? What are those??? She's (fortunately and unfortunately) been in the shelter since February and has learned a ton and also grown up a ton!

She now sits patiently and waits for you to put her harness on instead of trying to climb onto your shoulder like a parrot. 🦜 She is very dog friendly and enjoys playing in the yard with her friends!

We think she is Husky/Cattle Dog/Pit Bull and approximately 1.5 years old so approaching doggy adulthood. She's spayed, up to date on vaccines, and more than ready for a forever home!

BARK in the Park this Saturday at Quarai! Join us at 10am for a ranger-led walk!

Calling all four‑legged explorers — it’s your time to shine! 🐶Join us for a ranger-guided tour and an engaging talk by folks from Friends of the Mountainair Animal Shelter (FOMAS)! Make sure you bring water, a leash, and a lunch! 🐕‍🦺Every dog will learn what it takes to be a B.A.R.K. We are feeling so incredibly thankful today! 🌻🐶 Yesterday, we had a booth at the Mountainair Sunflower Festival and it was amazing to see the amount of support from the community and surrounding areas! This event is big for Mountainair and it's so fun seeing all the sunflower themed outfits, accessories, and most of all support for local art vendors and nonprofits like us!

Every donation, kind word, purchase, conversation, and helping hand makes a difference for the animals at our tiny shelter. 🐾

A HUGE thank you to all of the amazing Manzano Mountain Art Council volunteers who help make the Sunflower Festival possible each year! Events like this take so many hands behind the scenes. 🌻

And, of course, we want to give an extra-special shoutout to our FOMAS volunteers. Thank you for everything you do for this organization and for the animals in our care. 💙

The volunteers unanimously decided I need a waist, so now I’m getting EXTRA long walks, zoomies in the arena, and lots of playtime. Something about “burning calories.” 🤨

First of all… what even IS a calorie? And second of all… WHY ARE THERE FEWER KIBBLES IN MY BOWL?! 😭

I have officially been put on a diet and I am NOT impressed. I have filed a formal complaint with management. (ACO Carter I hope you're reading this!!!!📝)

But enough about my suffering… I NEED A HOME!!! I’m super sweet, love getting outside, and apparently I’m “not very husky-like” except for my coat.

I’m already spayed, microchipped, and up to date on my shots, so all I need now is for YOU to break me out of this joint and take me for a celebratory pup cup. 🍦🐶
