πŸš’ The new playground at Firefighters Memorial is set to be installed this summer! With that, there are a few tasks our Parks crew will be tackling in the coming weeks to ready the site for install. The first task is to remove the old firetruck on Wednesday, June 3 due to failed safety tests. Depending on the condition of the structure, the City plans to evaluate whether certain parts can be preserved to be placed in the park as historical art pieces in the future.

Pictured here: Design mock-up of new playground to be installed this summer.

πŸ“° Mountlake Terrace residents give City high marks for safety and mobility, but economy and affordability lag.
✍️ Nick Ng

β€œThe majority of Mountlake Terrace residents approve of the City’s governance, public safety and quality of life. That’s according to 448 residents surveyed by Polco, a private company that helps governments and public organizations collect resident feedback through surveys, polls and interactive tools to improve decision-making.

According to Polco’s Executive Vice President of Data and Insights Sonya Wytinck, the highest-rated areas were safety, natural environment, parks and recreation, and mobility.”

πŸ“’ NEWS: City Partners with National Civic League for Better Public Meetings Project / Community Engagement Survey is Open Now & Stay Tuned for September Townhall. READ MORE BELOW ‡️

Mountlake Terrace is participating in the Better Public Meetings project. The City partnered with the National Civic League and Perfect City, and ActiVote to give people a simple, trusted, and data-driven way to understand the health of their local democracy and gather feedback on issues that matter. The goal of this work is to help improve how public meetings are experienced by residents, elected officials, and municipal staff.

Public meetings, such as City Council and Boards & Commissions meetings, are essential to local decision-making. The Better Public Meetings project helps communities strengthen transparency, increase satisfaction with the public meeting process, and ensure that more voices can be heard.

By completing this ActiVote survey (https://bit.ly/431WZVU), MLT residents can share their experiences and opinions on our public meetings. ActiVote will aggregate local results to help the City understand its strengths and opportunities.

πŸ”Ή Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/431WZVU
πŸ”Έ Learn more about our Better Public Meetings project on our website: cityofmlt.com/2303.

This feedback will contribute to a broader picture of democratic health across the country. Everyone’s participation helps strengthen our community and supports a national effort to improve democracy.

I’m so glad that Flock is history in MLT and was never installed.

Now look……

β€œThe FBI wants to spend up to $36 million on commercial access to a nationwide license plate reader network, according to procurement documents obtained by 404 Media. The Bureau’s Directorate of Intelligence is seeking a Software-as-a-Service platform that would let agents query vehicle location data across six geographic regions covering the entire United States and its territoriesβ€”from Alaska to Guam.” 🚩 πŸ€”

Thank you to the Lynnwood City Council for inviting me to accept the Pride Month proclamation last night with other folks from the local πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ community β€”I was honored to be included and I’m proud to serve MLT as the first QPOC councilmember.

Representation matters and I’m grateful that our City Council represents a wide variety of lived experiences and perspectives, and that we each bring something unique to the dais in our efforts to serve and represent the community.

I made a brief comment during the proclamation, the gist of which was a reminder that β€œally” is a noun AND a verb; Pride month is a great time to consider what actions *you* can take to become an ally (or become a stronger one!).

What does allyship look like for *you*?
