It was a beautiful Friday afternoon to serve lunch to the people at The Journey Home, Murfreesboro. It felt good to be back and to smile to those who’s going through a hard time right now. One of the volunteers commented, “you knocked on my door this summer and no one else ever did”. Today was a good day. Missed you Mrs. Martha Hicks Touchton.

What a sweet treat to have my wife attend tonight’s county commission meeting, the last one for my first term. Swearing in for term #2 will be next Monday evening. All I can say is that God never ceases to amaze me and all things work together for good. Romans 8:28.

Congratulations to LaVergne High School on your new addition. The 40 million-80,000 sq ft project will allow for 27 new classrooms, a lecture hall, a forensic lab, a STEM classroom along with other classrooms and labs for biology, criminal justice and more. I was proud to support this investment for our students and teachers. Every student deserves the best learning environment we can offer. I hope this is something that you can be proud of for years to come. Working with city officials and the school board shows that a vision can come together with positive collaboration.

Yesterday, I was honored to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Poplar Hill Middle School which will become Rutherford County’s 53rd school. It was a great day celebrating a $60 million investment in the future of Rutherford County. Our students deserve safe, modern learning environments where they can thrive, and our teachers deserve the resources to help them succeed. Seeing this project come to life is a reminder of what can be accomplished when we work together for the good of our community.
Congratulations to Rutherford County Schools, the Board of Education, educators, staff, students, and everyone who played a role in making this vision a reality. I look forward to seeing generations of students learn, grow, and succeed within these walls.

As your County Commissioner, I remain committed to supporting investments that strengthen our schools, families, and community because when we invest in our children, we invest in the future of Rutherford County.

We are ONE Rutherford.

Thank you to the League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro / Rutherford County for allowing me to participate in the ‘coffee and conversation with your county commissioner’. It’s important to speak to a nonpartisan group that encourages voter engagement. I was able to share what we’ve done over the past four years, what we want to continue to do and shared how I have been active and accessible within my community many years before becoming a CC. It’s important to see what others have done in their community before asking voters to elect them. My community involvement over the past 15 years, especially 4, speaks for itself. Let’s continue that work. I’ll post the video later on of the interview.

I want to take a moment to address some of the rumors that have been circulating regarding a missing campaign yard sign and an AirTag.

First, thank you to the many people who truly know me and reached out before believing what they saw online. Your encouragement, your support, and your willingness to seek the facts instead of the headlines mean more than you know.

Let’s be honest—using the old “stolen yard sign” tactic is one of the oldest tricks in politics. When you can’t win on the issues, it’s easier to create distractions, fuel rumors, and chase social media attention than to have honest conversations with voters.

Without actually seeing someone do anything, there’s no way to know what really happened—if anything happened at all. Anyone could have placed an AirTag anywhere or it could have even been planted to create a narrative, so assumptions alone don’t prove wrongdoing. They certainly shouldn’t be used to create a political spectacle or distract from the issues that truly matter to our community.

It’s also unfortunate when law enforcement resources are pulled into situations like this. Our police officers have real work to do protecting our community, and their time should be respected and used for genuine public safety needs.

Instead of sitting behind a computer, that time could have been spent having real, honest conversations with voters about the future of our community. That’s how elections should be won.

At the end of the day, elections should be decided by ideas, integrity, and service—not by distractions, rumors, or political theater.

Now, I’m going to continue campaigning, because yard signs don’t win elections—earning the trust of voters does. I’ll continue knocking on doors, listening to the people of District 19, and focusing on the issues that truly matter.

God Bless,
Romel McMurry
County Commissioner District 19
