Murray Electric System crews have been helping our friends & neighbors in Mayfield restore power to their residents and businesses over the last few days. We are very thankful our system’s damage was minimal, and we were able to send help to those in need. 🚨IMPORTANT PSA🚨

The storm a couple nights ago caused an uncommon, but NOT impossible, situation when a broadband support strand snapped, made contact with a secondary electric line, then draped to the ground.

When the metal strand made contact with the secondary, it became energized with electricity & hot enough to glow red. You are able to physically see this from a distance because it was dark outside.

This is a pretty dramatic example of why we encourage everyone to be mindful of downed or low-hanging lines, and why they should ALWAYS be treated as ⚠️DANGEROUS⚠️ even if it doesn’t look like an electric line. Cable, telephone, and broadband lines can become energized if they somehow make contact with low-voltage lines. And they certainly do not have to be glowing red like this one to be dangerous, or even deadly.

If you ever see a downed line, stay far away, and report it to our office at 270-753-5312. DO NOT try to move it yourself.

Murray Electric System crews have been changing the old mercury v***r ballfield lights to new LED lights at the Murray-Calloway Co Parks. LEDs use a fraction of the energy, last longer, and are more durable than MVLs. These new lights were purchased with remaining grant money from the Street Light Conversion Project by the City of Murray. ⚾️🥎💪♥️🖤

Murray Electric System is seeking an experienced, dependable, and technically proficient individual to join our Broadband Operations team as a Network Operations Technician.

The successful candidate will work with both fiber and cable broadband technologies with MES’s transition to an all-fiber network. Previous experience in telecommunications, broadband operations, networking, information technology, electronics, field service, or a related technical environment is required.

Murray Electric System offers a competitive salary and an excellent fringe benefit package.

Lucas Roth recently completed his Lineman Apprenticeship Certification through his employment with Murray Electric System. The apprenticeship program is conducted under the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association’s nationally recognized program. To achieve certification, Luke was enrolled in a 4-year curriculum which included classroom training, on-the-job training under the supervision of Class A Journey Linemen, and attendance at labs for specialized training specific to line work duties. Luke was presented his certificate of completion and promoted to Journey Lineman at a ceremony observing his accomplishment by General Manager, Tony Thompson and Operations Supervisor, Dean Arnold. Way to go, Luke!! 🖤♥️
