A group of Neenah High School students created cancer patient port pillows that were recently delivered to the staff at the ThedaCare Regional Cancer Center.

For patients undergoing chemotherapy, a medical port is often implanted near the collarbone. Standard car seatbelts can rub against these ports, causing significant discomfort during travel. These small, padded pillows wrap around the seatbelt, acting as a soft barrier that relieves pressure on the treatment site.

By the end of the school year, the students’ hard work filled two full boxes with handmade pillows.

Thank you to the students and the high school staff members who coordinated this project.

Neenah Middle School eighth grade students in the Expedition Academy recently participated in real-world scenarios called the Amazing Shake. The high-stakes competition helped students master soft skills needed for real-world success.

Students practiced restaurant etiquette, ordering from the menu, calculating their tip and paying their bill. They then checked in at the airport with their boarding pass and ID before sitting next to a stranger and having to make conversation during their "flight." After they arrived, they participated in a mock job interview. Along the way, students navigated delays, mistakes and other adversity that they encountered.

Inspired by the Ron Clark Academy, the challenges were designed to test their composure and resilience. Students were graded in each of the areas by volunteers who assisted with the event.
