We’re excited to share that Blue Ridge Respite’s Heritage Center location is now open on Tuesdays 10 AM - 2:00PM.

Join The Center at Belvedere for the Active Aging Expo this Saturday, October 3, from 10 AM–1 PM in Charlottesville. Today is World Alzheimer’s Day - a day when we advocate for better research and support, encourage early diagnosis, and support caregivers and families impacted by the disease. Here at Blue Ridge Respite we offer respite to those living with a dementia and/or Parkinson’s. The caregiver gets 4 hours a day to themselves to get things done, or have lunch with a friend, knowing that their loved one is safe. For the one with memory issues they also get a respite from being at home. They are surrounded by what quickly become friends. They get to move with Tai Chi, dancing, yoga, walks; they get to sing, or play along with visiting musicians and hearing the tunes of their past. They have time to talk about fears, loss, and joy. But most of all they have that social connection so often lost with a dementia diagnosis. One newer member said through tears as we celebrated her birthday - “If I wasn’t here I’d be home all alone and no one would know it was my birthday.” At respite there is connection, joy and so much laughter.
