This pretty much sums it up!

Within the legislative district, 3,128 ballots were cast. Of the 787 Marshall County ballots in the race, Barker received 583 votes to Heintz’s 203 and one write-in. In Story County, Barker earned 1,506 votes, Heintz received 834 and there was one write-in.

On Wednesday, Heintz said he did all he could do, but Barker outspent his campaign by tens of thousands of dollars. He feels bad for the people who stood behind him and his campaign.

Well shoot! That didn't go the way we had hoped and worked for.

I want to thank so many of you for the support and your efforts. I'm disappointed myself and I'm sorry to have disappointed you as well. I am happy to have met so many people though and with the campaign we ran. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this campaign run has made me a better person and I'm thankful for that.

Now its back to work for me. Have a great day everyone!

Today's the day! Polls are open until 8pm tonight. Do me a favor, reach out to your friends, family and neighbors to get them to the voting booth. These primary elections typically have a small turnout but are incredibly important.

I've been so humbled by the amount of support I've received and will forever be a better guy for it. Thank you all for that!

I'll be anxiously awaiting results tonight!....while watching my kids play ball!

So the ads are out of control at this point. I believe my opponent has spent more $ this weekend than I have my entire campaign. I wonder how much good this money could have done instead of using it to buy votes. 🤷‍♀️

If you want:

-Protection from Eminent Domain abuse
-A balanced budget with cuts to waste and fraud
-Transparency, accountability and HONESTY from your representative
-A more comprehensive approach to school choice

I'm your representative and I need your vote.

Let's send a message on Tuesday the 2nd!

We're taking the voice of District 51 back for it's citizens!

We just got the Shady Shane text message. I guess the mailer didn't get enough backlash.

It tells me how absolutely desperate he and his handlers are for him to remain in office.

Let's vote him out June 2nd!

I want to represent YOU!

I know a lot of great people and this guy is one of them. His endorsement means so much to me on many different levels. We don't always see eye to eye on political matters, but we have always found common ground and can always discuss openly with each other. He gives everything he has to Nevada and has made me more aware of how involvement can change a community for the better. He is also our sitting Mayor in Nevada and my opponent's successor. He has seen first-hand and examined more closely than any of us the situation that my opponent has left our town in. His trust in me is humbling.

'The Republican primary is currently underway between Brett Barker and Shane Heintz for House District 51. This is an important race to help determine what sort of candidate we want representing us.

Although I am a democrat, I have been impressed by Shane’s commitment to our community. He has placed the people over party politics. He has made himself available to anyone, and has engaged people on both sides of the aisle- he has shown his character and his courage to engage with those that might not agree with him, but is willing to at least have those discussions. This is a mark of a good leader.

His fundraising is local and he is against eminent domain. He is not a yes man nor is he bought. If you are able to vote in the primary please consider voting for Shane Heintz for House District 51.'

I'm sharing this from a friend's page as it also holds true for District 51. I've been talking to people receiving 5 or 6 postcards over a couple of days. Ive heard about the YouTube ads and most recently cable TV ads. 🤯 As you know, I have a very tight budget for this and am primarily using word of mouth and networking with follow minded citizens. I can't thank everyone enough for the support but we need to keep it going as the plethora of ads and money are flowing. Tell a friend, family member or neighbor and get out and vote between now and June 2nd.

I want to represent YOU!

'Add on top of that the radio advertising, text messaging, and push polls throughout the district and you can easily double that number.

Shared from a friend: this goes for Senate District 5, too. I am going to upgrade the math to senate district 5.

To put this Iowa Senate race into perspective:

There are roughly 45,000 registered Republicans in Senate District 5. If a candidate or PAC sends 8 separate large postcard mailers districtwide, even at bulk postage rates, the total cost likely falls somewhere between $210,000 and $250,000.

That’s for a part-time legislative position that pays roughly $25,000 per year plus per diem.

Voters should ask themselves a simple question: Why would that level of money be poured into a local state senate race? What return is being expected on that investment, and by whom?

Local representation should be about serving the people of the district — not becoming a proxy war funded by outside interests and political machines.
Lastly, I’d hope the message conveyed has the candidate’s approval and if it doesn’t I’d believe a rebuttal would be appropriate.
In the meantime, go vote in the primary on June 2nd.'

This endorsement from my friends Andy and Jennifer means a whole lot to me. Andy and Jennifer are actually our business competitors. More importantly they're good people and well respected in Story County. Andy had been on Nevada City Council for several years before stepping down. He was recently re-elected and currently sits on the Council. Can't thank them enough for this!

'Our family farm in Illinois was directly impacted by eminent domain through the Dakota Access Pipeline, so we understand firsthand how important it is to have leaders who listen to rural communities and stand up for property owners and farm families.

That is why we are proud to endorse Shane Heintz for Iowa State Representative in the 51st District. Shane understands

We believe Shane will be a strong voice for local communities and responsible leadership and are proud to support his campaign.'
