Community Independent School District Community ISD has served the students and families in southeast Collin County since 1947. The District was named the Community Rural High School.

On July 28, 1947, the County School Trustees of Collin County passed an order grouping the Josephine ISD, Nevada School District, Lavon School District, Millwood School District, Mt. Piscah School District, and McMinn School District for the purpose of establishing and operating a rural high school. There were nine graduates in the inaugural class of 1948. By 2021, the Community Independent School

District has grown to over 3,350 students and serves four communities: Copeville, Josephine, Lavon and Nevada. The school colors are Royal Blue and Gold. Home of the Braves and

On the first day of our Christmas break, we wanted to share some photos from the Transportation and Maintenance/Grounds Departments.

They celebrated dress out week, Gus and Gussy on a bus (like Elf on the shelf) and many other fun activities. It was truly a joyous time to be a Brave in the Transportation and Maintenance Department.

Thank you to our Transportation and Maintenance/Grounds staff for all they do for Brave Nation!

In Community ISD, school improvement isn't just a plan. It's a commitment.

We believe every student deserves excellent instruction, every day, in every classroom.

This year, we're setting a new focus and a new standard for what the Community classroom looks like.

It's time!

Our Braves of the Week for the final week of 2025 are … the moms of McClendon Elementary!

These wonderful Braves were nominated by Mrs. Jamey Helms, McClendon Elementary’s counselor, for their service and dedication to the students and staff at her campus.

She said that “Their spirit of service and unwavering readiness to help are essential in keeping morale high and ensuring our staff feels valued and supported. They give so much of themselves, and our school is better because of them.”

You can read all of Mrs. Helm’s nomination in the link below. There, you can also check out the other “Brags” for this week.

And don’t forget to nominate a Brave over the Christmas break! We reveal our winner on the Community ISD page every Thursday at 8 a.m.

Our next winner will be announced on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Brave Nation,

As a matter of transparency, we would like to follow up in regard to the re-organization of the Board of Trustees at the meeting held on Monday, December 15, 2025. Due to an oversight in the current Board of Trustees Operating Procedures, the term limit of the President’s position had been exceeded. As a result, Jeff Pendill resigned his position as Board President, and the board moved forward with the re-organization.

Over the coming months, the Board of Trustees will engage with a Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) facilitator to review the current Board Operating Procedures to ensure we are operating according to policy and in the manner that is in the best interest of Community ISD.

Transparency, high standards, and accountability will be at the forefront of our focus as we serve the staff, students, parents, and residents of this District. We hope you will continue to partner with us as we move Community ISD forward.

Best wishes as we finish out this calendar year, and Happy Holidays!
