Data Center / CO2 Capture / BESS Moratorium Passes 3-0

2/23/2026 ➡️ By unanimous vote, Huntington County now has a moratorium. This pause on Data Centers, CO2 capture, and Battery Energy Storage Systems pauses all projects until the County has adequate time to hear from the public and draft a proper ordinance.

Wind ordinance update - The County is revisiting the windmill ordinance of 2015. More details to come.

🙋‍♂️ REMINDER: Tomorrow - February 24th 5:30pm Maple Solar appeal to the Huntington BZA. Public is encouraged to attend with overflow seating and public comment allowed. Maple Solar is a proposed 300 acre project near Warren who was previously denied for inadequate paperwork and surpassing deadlines.

Our monthly council meeting will be held on Wednesday, 3/11/26 at 7pm at the Community Center. As part of the meeting, there will be a discussion about a potential solar farm in the borough. We welcome all residents to attend and stay informed on this topic.

JUST IN: The Chenango Town Board votes unanimously to move forward with a resolution to draft a moratorium (likely 12 months) on solar farm development in the town.

No resolution has been passed as of this time. It could be discussed again as early as Wednesday.

The overwhelming amount of people in the audience, who are against the proposed solar farm, are in support of this move by the Town Board.
