The Craven County Sheriff's Office is pleased to present to you our NEWEST K-9 Unit that will be patrolling our community!!!! We are so excited to see what a difference K-9 Deputy Belcher and K-9 Athos will make in Craven County!!!!

K-9 Athos is a 4 year old German Shepherd has been assigned to K-9 Deputy Belcher.

K-9 Athos has been trained in Criminal apprehension, Narcotics Detection, Tracking and Trailing, and Article Searches. K-9 Athos will now start patrolling the streets of Craven County!

We look forward to seeing what these 2 are going to accomplish!

On Thursday my precious baby K-9 Ringo passed away. He was almost 14 years old. He was my partner, my rock, my mentor, my therapist, my best friend, I could go on and on what he was to me. When I first got Ringo, I was told I would never be able to handle him because he was too much for me. But HE CHOSE ME.
Words can't describe what he means to me. He taught me how to be a Handler and a Trainer, how to love unconditionally, how to be a leader, how to be a better person, how to never quit, again I could go on and on. He showed me what path I wanted take in life and showed me dreams that I never knew I had or even wanted.
He was an extention of my heart, soul, and body. He protected me, my family, the Officers, the Deputies, and the Citizens of New Bern and Craven County for over a decade.
He pushed me to be better even in the times I didn't want to be. Even till the end he showed his strength and willingness to fight the good fight.
How this angry K-9 who wanted to bite everyone and everything (when I first got him) turned into this sweet loving dog that became such a big part of the community and loved everyone is beyond me. He is such an icon and staple of New Bern and Craven County and the people and children that his love touched was absolutely unheard of. Everyone fell in love with him when they met him.
Me saying thank you to him was never enough for what has given me. I can't even put into word how much I love and needed him.

So all I ask is for you all to help me honor him by posting in the comments your favorite memory of K-9 Ringo and/or if you have a picture of him or taken a picture with him.

Thank you Sheriff Hughes for allowing K-9 Ringo to be a part of Craven County.

Thank you Dr. Stelma and Dr. Farrer for putting up with me during this time....

I wanted to take a moment to personally thank each and every member of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.

Without going into a lot of detail, we have had a very busy week thus far and many within the ranks of the sheriff’s office and the many assisting agencies have worked countless hours in an effort to put violent narcotic dealing offenders behind bars. A lot of this work is unseen by the public but not unnoticed in the outcome.

In short, words aren’t enough to express my appreciation towards our team. Their hard work and dedication is simply an effort to protect and serve you to the best of their ability. Have a great day everyone.
