Sign Up Your Neighborhood for National Night Out!

National Night Out is an annual event that strengthens police-community partnerships and fosters neighborhood camaraderie to help build a safer, more connected New Braunfels.

This is a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors a little better, celebrate your community, and promote safety. Neighborhoods can register their block party with the City for a visit by New Braunfels Police and Fire crews.

Siren Testing Notice

The City of New Braunfels will conduct its monthly outdoor warning siren test on Tuesday, September 1, at approximately 12pm (noon). Please note: This is a routine system test. There is no emergency, and there is no cause for concern.

In the event of a real emergency, the sirens will sound as a signal to tune in to local media and check the City of New Braunfels website, newbraunfels.gov, and official social media channels for important updates.

UPDATE: TRAFFIC ALERT

12:15pm: Only one lane remains closed in the area of SH 46 West at Mission Valley Road. Drivers should continue to expect traffic delays in the area until all lanes have reopened and traffic resumes its normal flow.

SH 46 West at Mission Valley Road is currently closed in both directions. The New Braunfels Police and Fire departments are assisting the Texas Department of Public Safety with a traffic stop and accident at that location. Drivers should expect significant traffic delays in the area, avoid the area if possible, and try to find alternate routes.

As Emergency Management Awareness Month comes to a close, it’s a great reminder to make sure you’re prepared.

Residents are encouraged to register their cell phone numbers with the Regional Emergency Alert Network to receive emergency notifications directly on their phones. Landlines are contacted automatically, but cell phones must be registered. Signing up is free.

Flammable items + trash carts = fire risk. Please keep them out!

Earlier this week, a City of New Braunfels garbage truck had a small fire in the compactor area after a flammable item was crushed during collection. City staff responded quickly, and everyone is safe, but incidents like this are a clear reminder: hazardous items should never go in trash or recycling carts.

Items like pressurized cans, lithium-ion batteries, oxygen tanks, and similar materials can catch fire or explode when they’re squeezed inside the truck. Even one item placed incorrectly can put staff and the community at risk.

All of these items are considered Household Hazardous Waste, and the City of New Braunfels hosts free Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off events throughout the year where residents can dispose of them safely. Go to newbraunfels.gov/hhw for more event info.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the City of New Braunfels will hold a ceremony marking the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Read more information about the event in the post below.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the City of New Braunfels will hold a ceremony marking the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The event will begin at 7:25 a.m. and feature members of the New Braunfels Fire and Police Department, who will march from the downtown Central Fire Station on Hill Avenue to Main Plaza. The ceremony will begin at approximately 7:40 a.m.

The ceremony will include a flag-raising and lowering ceremony at 7:46 a.m., commemorating the time American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The ceremony will also include an invocation, brief remarks from local dignitaries, and a bell ringing in memory of fallen first responders.

Traffic around Main Plaza will be closed beginning at approximately 7:15 a.m. Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to gather near the flagpole and bandstand.
