The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) is a public/state government organization tasked with providing law enforcement, emergency response, and public safety services to Rutgers, The State University of New Jer

sey. The RUPD operates with three distinct geographic commands aligned with Rutgers primary campus locations in Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden, New Jersey. The RUPD is a full-service police agency with statewide authority established under N.J.S.A. 18A:6-4.2 to 4.11 inclusive. The RUPD is staffed with 180 sworn police officers, whom are duly licensed by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, and have completed basic and in-service police academy training along with their municipal, county, and state counterparts. Rutgers Police Officers are authorized to carry fi****ms, effect arrests, and enforce criminal and traffic laws at all times within the State of New Jersey. Rutgers Police Officers are assigned to uniformed patrol functions, the most visible resource of the police department, as well as to support roles within investigations, special operations, emergency management, traffic safety, crime prevention, community policing, professional standards, executive protection, training, and administration. The RUPD additionally provides security services as a proud partner with Rutgers Athletics to New Jersey's second largest public venue, SHI Stadium -- in addition to Jersey Mike's Arena -- for all NCAA Division I and Big Ten Conference athletic events. In addition to police services, the RUPD employs full- and part-time civilian personnel and student workers within an array of essential support specialties including 9-1-1 communications, emergency management, security services, parking enforcement, administrative and technical services, records, background investigations, compliance, security technology, and identity access management. The Rutgers Police Department is an internationally accredited law-enforcement agency, achieving initial and recurrent accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) commencing in 2011. The RUPD is also accredited as an agency through the New Jersey State Association of Chief of Police (NJSACOP) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA.) The RUPD's Shared Services Emergency Communications Center, which provides 9-1-1 public safety answer/dispatch point services to both Rutgers and contracted partners, secured additional independent accreditation through CALEA in 2020. Today through Friday, June 12. North 5th St. will be resurfaced between Federal St. and Penn St. Additionally, curbs along North 5th St. will be restored. Expect detours and short-term closures to complete this work.

Attention Rutgers RBHS- Newark Community: The Newark Police Department is investigating a robbery which was reported to have occurred on May 26, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., at the intersection of Bergen Street and 12th Avenue, Newark, NJ. In this incident, the victim, who is not affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that they were struck by an unknown individual and robbed while utilizing the Bank of America ATM. Following the incident, the suspect fled the area in a white-colored 4-door Buick, traveling southbound on Bergen Street. The victim sustained non-life threatening injures during the incident. Currently, the description of the suspect(s) is limited, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Newark Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the NPD’s Detective Bureau at 973-733-6000. The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you to take reasonable safety precautions, including: • Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you; • Report suspicious activity or persons to the police immediately; • Only allow in people who are familiar to you, guests should be es**rted; • Do not leave valuables unattended or unsecured in your office, residence hall room or at your work space. • Avoid isolated or dark areas; and • Walk in groups when traveling during late night hours. Attention Rutgers - New Brunswick Community: The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a burglary which was reported to have occurred on May 21st, 2026, at approximately 6:00 am, within a private residence located on Wyckoff Street, in the City of New Brunswick, NJ. In this incident, the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that an unknown perpetrator gained entry into their off-campus residence without authorization. Once confronted, the perpetrator immediately exited the residence and fled in an unknown direction. There were no signs of forced entry, no items were reported stolen, and no injuries were reported as a result of the encounter. The suspect was described as a dark-skinned male, approximately 5'6" in height, with short dark colored hair, who was wearing dark clothing during the incident. The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the NBPD's Detective Bureau at (732) 745-5217. Attention Rutgers University -- RBHS Community:

The Rutgers University Police Department is investigating an assault reported on May 20, 2026, at approximately 4:03 p.m., on Bruce Street, between Cabinet Street and West Market Street in Newark, New Jersey.

The victim, who is not affiliated with the University, stated that they were struck by an unknown individual. Following the incident, the suspect fled the area in a dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound on Cabinet Street from Bruce Street.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries because of the incident.

Currently, the description of the suspect(s) is limited, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Rutgers University Police Department requests that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the RUPD’s Detective Bureau at 973-972-6394.

The Rutgers University Police Department reminds you to take reasonable safety precautions, including:

• Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you;
• Keep all doors locked to your residence and vehicle(s);
• Report suspicious activity or persons to the police immediately;
