I was born in France in 1846. At age 10, I lived in Ohio, and in 1862, at age 16, I joined the Union Army to fight in the Civil War.

I lived in Henry County for the last 68 years of my life and have the distinction of being the county's last Civil War Veteran to pass on to the great beyond.

My final resting place is Batson Cemetery in Liberty Township, Henry County, Indiana.
