Elk Creek Bridge Project Update - Traffic Impacts Expected

June 9-10 from 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Crews are scheduled to install the Elk Creek Bridge girders and pedestrian bridge on June 9–10 from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This work will require temporary daytime traffic holds of up to one hour on US Highway 6 near the Elk Creek Bridge site.

Over the two-day period, crews will place seven bridge girders and one pedestrian bridge, with each installation requiring a traffic hold. Emergency responders will be allowed through when necessary.

Due to the size of the girders, more than 120 feet long and weighing approximately 59 tons, specialized trucks will stage temporarily in the downtown median during installation, potentially extending across multiple blocks. The pedestrian bridge, weighing 17 tons, will be lifted into place by crane.

This complex operation will require two 240-ton cranes, and we appreciate the community’s patience as this important project milestone moves forward.
