While students still have a few more days of summer to savor, this week administrators and teachers returned to the District for professional development opportunities to set them up for a successful school year. Earlier in the week, the District hosted its fourth New Professionals Institute (NPI), a series of workshops and activities for employees who are in their first, second and third year at CCSD. Topics included the Clarkstown approach to teaching and learning, how to leverage and integrate instructional technology to transform and elevate innovative teaching and learning practices and strategies to make instruction accessible to all students. "Supporting our teachers is essential to our core values," says Dr. Julie Kotler Snider, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. "A robust teacher induction program and mentoring program result in the best outcomes for students."

Our administrators also spent the past two days in our District offices as part of their leadership retreat, where the focus was on utilizing instructional rounds, a collaborative process for observing, analyzing and improving teaching. Once again, CCSD welcomed educational consultant, Judy Wilson, who led our team through a series of thought provoking exercises.

Enjoy the last summer weekend before school begins, Clarkstown! We look forward to welcoming our sixth and ninth grade students to orientation on Monday!

With the new school year just around the corner, fall sports are already underway at Clarkstown high schools North and South. Tryouts and practices began this week, giving students a chance to compete for a spot and get back into the rhythm of a new season. Good luck to everyone!

What are you doing on September 9th, Clarkstown? How about taking in a Yankees game? That same night, CCSD’s combined Clarkstown North and South Chorus members will perform the National Anthem at the game! As part of this historic evening, Clarkstown supporters have access to discounted tickets in the “Clarkstown Section”! A portion of the proceeds from tickets sold in this area will be donated back to the Clarkstown music program, courtesy of the New York Yankees. Clarkstown Central School District is excited to welcome Laura Sileo, LCSW, MPA, as its new Supervisor, Pupil Personnel Services, effective July 27, 2026. Laura comes to CCSD from the White Plains City School District, where she was a House Administrator, and she has worked as a social worker for two decades in various capacities, including foster care, family court and integrated health care. But the positive change she is able to effect by working in a school district is what drew her to education. "When I first started in White Plains as a social worker, the principal told me that if I wanted to work with families, a school is where you need to be because every child has to move through a school in some form," she says. "Connecting with people, understanding what they're looking for and being able to be helpful in some way is my favorite part of my job and working in a school district allows me to make those connections not just for the students but also for their families."

Laura, who is bilingual, was born in Costa Rica and came to the United States when she was nine-years-old. She lives in Westchester County with her husband and three children and is looking forward to building upon the strong foundation that is already in place in . "The team here is so knowledgeable and they have a really good flow and I'm excited to be a part of that flow," she says.
