With the high temperatures expected this week and fields, grass, and other vegetation starting to dry out, the New Douglas Fire Department is asking everyone to please refrain from outdoor burning whenever possible.
Dry conditions combined with high heat can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control. What starts as a small burn can quickly turn into a large grass or field fire, putting homes, property, and our community at risk.
πŸ™ Please help us prevent unnecessary fires. If you can wait to burn until conditions are cooler and safer, please do so.

As always, never leave a fire unattended and make sure any fire is completely extinguished.

After a large fire, the work doesn’t stop when the flames are out. Tonight, the New Douglas Fire Department spent time cleaning up and getting our equipment back in service and ready for the next call.
Our firefighters work hard before, during, and after every incident to make sure our gear and apparatus are cleaned, inspected, and ready to respond when our community needs us.

Flashing lights on the roadside mean one thing: SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER.

Illinois’ Move Over Law applies to emergency responders, tow and recovery operators, IDOT and tollway personnel, and construction workers no matter the situation. Whether 𝐬̲𝐭̲𝐚̲𝐭̲𝐒̲𝐨̲𝐧̲𝐚̲𝐫̲𝐲̲ 𝐨̲𝐫̲ 𝐧̲𝐨̲𝐭̲, you are required to slow down and move over for authorized emergency vehicles with flashing lights working on the road ahead whether they are 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭.

You must also slow down and move over for non-emergency vehicles with hazard lights activated.
