Back to School with Your Fire District!

What a great way to kick off a new school year! Our firefighters were excited to welcome students back at Franklin County R-2 and New Haven Elementary.

We opened our doors, greeted students and families, and enjoyed seeing all those smiling faces as everyone headed back to school. We’re proud to be part of these communities and grateful for the opportunity to support our local schools.

To all the students, teachers, staff, and families — have a safe, successful, and fantastic school year!

Last Tuesday night at our monthly board meeting, the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District officially swore in Assistant Chief of House 3, Perry Bruckerhoff.

Assistant Chief Bruckerhoff was sworn in by Chief Greunke. He was pinned by his son, Devin.

Congratulations to Assistant Chief Bruckerhoff as he continues his service and leadership within our district.

On Tuesday night at our monthly board meeting, the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District officially swore in Assistant Chief of House 1, Joshua Vance, and Captain of House 5, Joseph Rowe.

Assistant Chief Vance was sworn in by Chief Greunke. He was pinned by his wife, Ashley, with their children, Oliver, Brynlee, and Paisley, present for the ceremony.

Captain Rowe was also sworn in by Chief Greunke. He was pinned by his wife, Sara, with their daughters, Emily, Lucy, and Daisy, present for the ceremony.

Congratulations to Assistant Chief Vance and Captain Rowe as they continue their service and leadership within our district.

Today, we honor and remember Firefighter Lloyd Ruediger.

Lloyd's unwavering dedication, selfless service, and commitment to protecting our community left a lasting legacy within the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District. He was an invaluable member of our fire family whose impact continues to be felt today.

Though he is no longer with us, his sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.

Never Forgotten. Forever Honored.

Today we honor and remember Firefighter Lloyd Ruediger. On June 26, 2023, Firefighter Lloyd Ruediger passed away at home after he responded to a residential structural fire the previous evening.

Firefighter Ruediger served with the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District for 59 years.

We will never forget the life and legacy of Firefighter Lloyd Ruediger.

Today, we would like to recognize and thank all of the fathers who serve our community as volunteer firefighters.

Being a firefighter requires sacrifice, dedication, and a commitment to helping others—often at the expense of time spent with family. Whether responding to emergencies in the middle of the night, attending training, or serving at community events, our firefighter dads continually answer the call.

To the fathers of the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District: thank you for your service, leadership, and example. Your families share in your sacrifice, and your commitment helps make our community a safer place for everyone.

On this Father's Day, we celebrate not only the firefighters you are, but also the fathers, role models, and heroes you are at home.

On Tuesday night at our monthly board meeting, the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District officially swore in Fire Chief David Greunke and Deputy Fire Chief Colter Wilson.

Chief Greunke was sworn in by Board President Harold Englert. He was pinned by his wife, Sam, with their children, Dakota and Daxton, present for the ceremony.

Deputy Chief Wilson was sworn in by Chief Greunke. He was pinned by his wife, LeeAnna, with their daughter, Emma, present for the ceremony.

Congratulations to Chief Greunke and Deputy Chief Wilson as they continue their service and leadership within our district.

On behalf of our entire department, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the agencies and individuals who supported us as we honored Retired Firefighter Dennis Wilson.

Thank you to Boles Fire Protection District for providing coverage of our district, allowing our members to fully participate in honoring Dennis. Your willingness to step in during this time means more than words can express.

We are also deeply appreciative of the Washington Fire Department, Washington Area Ambulance District and New Haven Ambulance District for their assistance with the casket vigil and funeral services. Your professionalism, respect, and brotherhood were evident every step of the way, and your support helped ensure everything ran smoothly.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to all agencies that participated in the Firefighter Walk Through. Your presence and professionalism created a meaningful tribute that truly honored Dennis’s service and legacy, and your support for his family and our department will not be forgotten.

Lastly, we want to recognize the Missouri Fire Service Funeral Assistance Team for their incredible work behind the scenes organizing the events. Your attention to detail and commitment helped us honor Dennis in a way that truly reflects his service and legacy.

This outpouring of support is a powerful reminder of the strength of the fire service family. We are truly grateful.

❄️ Winter Weather Advisory – New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District ❄️

The New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District would like to remind everyone to prepare for the winter weather we are expected to face. Cold temperatures, snow, and icy conditions can create dangerous situations if we’re not ready.

🌨️ Travel with Caution

Slow down and allow extra stopping distance

Avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions

Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle (blanket, flashlight, phone charger, food, water)

🔥 Heating Safety

Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn

Never use ovens, grills, or generators to heat your home

Ensure chimneys and heating vents are clear of snow and ice

🚨 Carbon Monoxide & Fire Safety

Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries if needed

Clear snow from furnace, dryer, and generator exhaust vents

🧤 Cold Weather Preparedness

Dress in layers and limit time outdoors

Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those who may need assistance

Bring pets indoors during extreme cold

If you have an emergency, dial 911 immediately. Our firefighters will continue to respond as needed, but your preparation helps keep both the public and first responders safe.
