Our mission is to promote health and well-being across the region by advancing safe, cost effective, and convenient transportation for getting into and around New Haven. re, goNHgo brings together organizations and individuals to use active transportation options. We and our partners utilize our resources and relationships with employees and employers to promote alternative transit use. In doing so, we hope to create a healthier, more sustainable, more active city with lower public health costs. With our roads crowding, our sea levels rising, and our expensive highway construction projects stalling, goNewHavengo is dedicated to doing what works: active transportation. In September, we will set a basis for responsible commuting during the events and contests of our alternative transportation month. Then, throughout the year, you can come here to find resources to help you plan your commute in different ways and reduce how often you use personal vehicles, as well as information on special projects related to active transportation in New Haven. For Pedestrian Safety Month, let's talk about LPIs.

Leading pedestrian intervals are flashing signs that announce when it is safe for pedestrians to cross. They are timed with traffic lights to allow pedestrians to cross only when cars parallel to them have a green light. They improve safety by giving pedestrians a 3-5 second head start. LPIs also reinforce the pedestrian right-of-way during a walk signal and have decreased pedestrian-vehicle collisions by more than 50%. Learn more at https://saferoutesforall.org/.
