Members started on the demo work at the station in preparation of a major upgrade to the club room, kitchen, and radio room. Kitchen cabinets were removed and the tile was removed from the radio room. More updates and photos coming later in the month but it is a LONG needed upgrade.

Boat 56 was activated to assist East Deer Fire Department with a reported boat fire by the New Kensington Bridge. Upon arrival, the fire was extinguished by a passing boat and had the pontoon under tow back to Lighthouse Marina. Call #282.

On Friday, Union Hose was alerted to assist Lower Burrell #3 with a reported structure fire as part of the Tri-City All Call alert. Truck 1 was first arriving unit and found a house well off on the Charlie side. Truck 1 personnel started setting up the truck and assisted the first arriving engine with fire suppression. The alarm brought units from Lower Burrell, New Kensington. Arnold, Plum, Harrison Twp., and Tarentum. Great work by all mutual aid departments.

Over the past week, the Plymovent exhaust system was installed in station 1 to remove exhaust fumes from the station. As soon as the apparatus starts up, the exhaust system kicks in and keeps the firefighters safe from breathing in the diesel fumes. It also keeps the diesel soot off the turnout gear. The system was partially funded through a grant.

Today The New Kensington Fire Department and Ambulance accepted a donation of water from Anheuser-Busch through a program administered by the National Volunteer Fire Council. The water will be used to help Rehab firefighters throughout the Tri-Cities and keep them properly hydrated during what’s already shaping up as a hot and steamy summer! Thanks also to Frank B Fuhrer Company for arranging our delivery!

Air 56-1 (our current Rescue) waa activated to assist Lower Burrell Volunteer Company #1 for a reported tractor trailer roll over with injuries. Driver was treated and transported by EMS. Air 1 supplied absorbent materials to assist with containment of runoff to prevent it from entering the creek. Westmoreland County Team 800 arrived on scene to assist with cleanup. We were released shortly after.

Boat 56 waa activated this evening to assist the Springdale Fire Department for an I-Phone crash notification on the Allegheny River. Units checked the notification area and were unable to locate any issues. Captain 273 put all units back in service.

Union Hose Station 1 was dispatched to assist Arnold Station 95 with a reported working fire in an apartment building with entrapment. Police and fire arriving fire officers were able to quickly achieve a knockdown utilizing extinguishers and water cans. Crews from various departments worked to complete overhaul and ventilation. Fortunately, all residents were able to safely exit the structure. Truck 1 and engine 3 responded with a total of 12 personnel.
