This week, we held our first ServSafe Manager certification class for residents at Covenant Shelter of New London!

Thanks to the generous support of Impact100 Southern Connecticut, residents now have access to training that can help open doors to employment and greater independence.

Our first class included 8 individuals and 2 families, giving residents an opportunity to gain valuable food safety knowledge and a certification that can strengthen their resumes and expand their career options.

This is what meaningful support looks like — not just providing a safe place to stay, but helping people build the skills and confidence they need to move forward. ❤️

There is something incredibly powerful about gathering around a table for a home-cooked meal.

This beautiful meal, lovingly prepared by Chef Amarylis, is one she calls the Sunday Feast. It’s more than just food—it’s comfort, connection, and a reminder that everyone deserves to feel cared for.

After today’s meal, one of our guests shared words we’ll never forget:

“Thank you so much for making us feel human again.”

That simple statement reminds us that food nourishes far more than hunger. It restores dignity. It creates community. It provides a sense of safety and belonging during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Because of partners like Impact 100 Southern Connecticut, we’re able to create these moments of hope, one meal at a time. Thank you for helping us ensure our guests don’t just receive a meal—they experience compassion, respect, and the feeling of being home.

Partnerships in action!

Recently, members of SCADD's Family Services and Outreach & Engagement teams visited the Covenant Shelter of New London to meet shelter clients and share information about SCADD's programs and services.

🤝 Community partnerships like this are an important part of expanding access to care. By working alongside organizations like the Covenant Shelter, we can connect more individuals with the resources and support options available to them when they're ready to take the next step.

One of the first milestones of our Impact100 Southern Connecticut//Thrive365 initiative is already making a difference! 🍽️

Please join us in welcoming Amarilys Saluk as Covenant Shelter's part-time chef! With more than 35 years of experience in nutrition and foodservice leadership, Amarilys is a Certified Dietary Manager and Certified Food Protection Professional who has dedicated her career to providing exceptional nutritional care with compassion and excellence.

Amarilys is a respected leader within the nutrition and foodservice profession. She has served on the National Board of the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP), contributed to the National Credentialing Exam Committee, participated on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, and supported leadership development initiatives. Her expertise has also been recognized through advisory board appointments with community college Dietary Manager programs, helping shape the next generation of nutrition professionals.

She is already preparing delicious, nutritious meals that bring comfort, dignity, and consistency to our guests each day. This is exactly the kind of impact Thrive365 was designed to create, and we're so excited to have Amarilys leading the way. Welcome to the team!
