Today Governor Jeff Landry signed into law Act 628 which provides an extra layer of security to members of Louisiana’s judiciary. The bill, authored by Representative Delisha Boyd passed both the House and Senate unanimously. I am so grateful and appreciative of the hard work of the Louisiana Supreme Court Judicial Security Committee, Representative Boyd and Senator Gary Carter. Louisiana now joins 32 other states with similar legislation.

The second grade class of Bricolage Academy and the pre-K class of Edward Hynes Elementary were such great participants and listeners today. As it’s Mardi Gras time and Black History Month, “Stuck” was the perfect book to read. Written by the late Nancy Parker, Stuck, is about Benny, a string of beads, who joins his friends in the beautiful trees along the parade route on St Charles Avenue. The second book, “The Boy Who Wouldn’t Read,” by Denise Walter McConduit is a cleaver book that imagines a world without words. Two awesome African American female authors! Thank you Community Bookstore for always having great books! Community Book CenterCourtney V PolkBrandon James NancyParkerLiteracy.com

Yesterday we lost a phenomenal woman and matriarch of New Orleans in Mrs. Leah Chase. Not only will her cooking be missed but her encouragement and wisdom will be missed even more. I will never forget being in her kitchen where she told me “Tiff, always remember to never forget where you came from and always reach back and help others.” Mrs. Leah, you have led a blessed life and are with Mr. Edgar but we will truly miss you.
