On January 8, 1815 in a blossoming port city called New Orleans a young general by the name of Andrew Jackson was faced with the daunting task of leading US forces into a naval battle to secure the independence of his nation. Having fought in the Revolutionary War, Jackson was no fan of the imperialist British forces he shelled that day, but after hours of fighting Jackson was victorious in his ca
mpaign. The greatest navy in the world fell to a rag tag team of upstarts in one of the greatest victories in America's Second War of Independence. Some 13 years later, after being fed up with the direction the nation was heading (and a certain corrupt bargain), Jackson stormed the White House with the support of a newly established organization to become our seventh President. However, a lesser known fact of this story is that after the battles had ended and the British troops no longer occupied Louisiana the sailors who had served directly under Jackson consistently gathered together on evenings to toast their former commander and damn all those who opposed him. However, these friends felt something was missing and that a collective brotherhood of politically minded people should be established for the good of the community and the city they so dearly loved. Thus, on Decemeber 3, 1828, the day Jackson was announced the winner of the Office of President of the United States, Delta Epsilon Mu was formed. Since then, many politically minded people and a number notable figureheads in New Orleans have become members and in our over 175 years of existence our membership has expanded to people from states all around the nation. How do you ask? An open membership that allows those of the Progressive political persuasion to come together in the name of Jackson and his party, jsut as his men did long ago. If you are interested in joining, simply become a fan and our membership committee will respond to you just as quickly as they can.
