Crimestoppers extends a special congratulations to our overall Officer of the Year, Sergeant Jack Uhle, Jr., of the Louisiana State Police 🎉
Sergeant Jack Uhle began his career with the Louisiana State Police as a cadet in 2014 and has since served as a uniformed patrol Trooper, Plainclothes Detective, and now Sergeant of the Region 1 Criminal Investigative Section.
On January 1, 2025, Sgt. Uhle’s seamless coordination with NOPD during the terror attack in New Orleans demonstrated his ability to manage critical incidents through calm, decisive leadership and effective multi-agency communication. His collaboration ensured a unified response under extreme pressure, reinforcing the value of integrated operations between LSP and municipal partners.
Sgt. Uhle played a pivotal role in the May 16, 2025, Orleans Parish jail escape, where ten inmates, including Derrick Groves, a double homicide suspect awaiting sentencing, escaped custody. Leveraging his deep knowledge of the suspects and their criminal networks, Sgt. Uhle coordinated a multi-state, multi-agency manhunt involving the FBI (VCAIT), U.S. Marshals Service, NOPD, and detectives from Louisiana, Texas, and Atlanta. His persistence and coordination led to the capture of all ten escapees and 25 total arrests of escapees and their accomplices, nine of whom have already pled guilty. This complex operation exemplified Sgt. Uhle’s ability to unify law enforcement resources toward a shared mission of public safety.
