A recent message from a special interest group claims that voting NO on all seven proposed Charter amendments is “throwing the baby out with the bathwater.” Let’s set the record straight.

This isn’t about insulting anyone’s intelligence — it’s about protecting your voice and your wallet.

Here’s the truth:
• 💰 The city commission is trying to give itself an 80% pay raise and extend the mayor’s term.
• 🏗️ This same commission has ignored overwhelming public opposition to massive sprawl projects like Urban and Deering Park.
• 🌀 They’ve failed to fight back against SB 180 — which strips away home rule and drives up insurance costs for everyone.
• 🗳️ They scheduled a low-turnout special election instead of putting these changes on the general election ballot — because they know fewer people will be watching.

A “NO” vote on all amendments isn’t throwing anything away — it’s sending a clear message that NSB residents won’t reward bad behavior.

Special interest groups tied to developers want you to hand them more power.

📢 They knew. And they did nothing.

The City of New Smyrna Beach wrote a letter warning the Governor that SB 180 would increase flood insurance premiums for our residents and make it harder for us to protect our homes and businesses from repeated flood damage.

And then… they voted NOT to join the lawsuit challenging that same bill.

They had the facts.
They had the chance to stand up for us.
They chose to stand down.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest lobbyists pushing SB 180 was Kolter — the developer behind Deering Park. Yes, the same controversial project the City Commission approved against the clear opposition of residents.

So let’s be very clear:
✅ They knew your flood insurance would go up.
✅ They knew SB 180 stripped away local protections.
✅ And they still refused to fight for us.

❌ No raises for commissioners who don’t defend our community.
🗳️ On November 4, vote NO on all City Charter Amendment revisions. Hold them accountable.
