Nili was a beloved member of our Older Adults Center until the day she passed away.

We are so honored that her adult children are organizing a fundraiser in her honor. Funds will go toward Riverdale Y and Magen David Adam, two organizations close to Nili's heart.

If you'd like to hear more of Nili's story and donate in her honor, you can do so here:

Dear Riverdale Y Community Members:

Since the attacks in Israel began and with increased concerns about security particularly in the next few days, we are taking proactive steps that are both visible and not visible to community members. While there are no known credible threats against Jewish institutions in New York, we remain on high alert and in communication with law enforcement at the federal, state and local level.

Through our close relationships with the 50th precinct and local government officials, we have secured police presence onsite at the Y at various times throughout our hours of operation.

We implement our policies and procedures through the assistance of our professional security consultants at the Community Security Initiative (CSI), which works closely with Jewish day schools, synagogues, JCCs, and other faith-based organizations in New York City. CSI is in continuous contact with the NYPD, FBI, and other agencies to track suspicious activity.

We are thankful to all of our community members, staff and volunteers for complying with our safety procedures.

As always, if you have any questions feel free to reach out.

Melissa Sigmond
Chief Executive Officer

Yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Israel that have killed hundreds of residents and injured thousands more, including innocent children and seniors, is heartbreaking and outrageous. A cowardly violent attack on innocent people goes against everything that we stand for as a nation.

We condemn these acts of terror and are working closely with the NYPD and our faith leaders to ensure our Jewish residents and families in our borough are safe.

Our hearts also go out to the families impacted by this horrific tragedy and our Bronx residents with loved ones and friends currently in Israel. As a Borough, we pray for peace and stand in solidarity with Israel today and every other day against violent extremism

09/14/2023

As we approach the Jewish high holidays, it is both an exciting time of new beginnings and a period of reflection. The Hebrew word that comes to mind, as it has strong connections to both the prayers and the reading from the Torah (Five Books of Moses) on Rosh Hashana, is "hineni," "here I am."

Here I am, present and mindful of the growth I have experienced in the last year as well as of the growth I would like to experience in the coming year.

This is an exciting time at Riverdale Y as we launch our new branding and tagline, "Make Your Life Here." As I reflect on this upcoming year, an area that I would like to improve on is to be more present in the moment, to find my "Hineni" whether personally or professionally; to really focus on living mindfully and being immersed in the here and now, "Make my Life Present." I encourage you to challenge yourself and think about what you would like more of in your life, what will your tagline be for the New Year?

Wishing all those celebrating a happy and healthy new year and wishing our community at large a successful start to the new school year filled with new discoveries, exciting challenges and meaningful opportunities. May we each have the courage to say "Hineni" when we are called and contribute to our community in a meaningful way.
