Recently, CEO Executive Director & CEO Sam Schaeffer attended Blue Meridian Partners’ 2026 Partnership Summit, where leaders across sectors explored how innovation can expand access to opportunity.

At the summit, Sam shared CEO’s growing AI for Opportunity work — including our AI-powered job coach, accessible through a simple phone call, which helps people both preparing to return home from incarceration and those who have recently returned home practice interviews, strengthen workplace communication skills, and access support in environments where digital access is often limited.

Our approach is designed to expand access to coaching and preparation while also giving staff more time to focus on what matters most: building the personal connections, trust, and individualized support that are so critical to participant success.

At CEO, we believe technology should strengthen human connection, not replace it — making support more accessible, responsive, and human-centered at every stage of reentry.

P is for Potential.

For Reggie, Pride means showing up fully as himself without apology and refusing to let stereotypes, assumptions, or his past define his future.

For over 12 years, he has dedicated his work to LGBTQIA+ organizing and community leadership that helps others feel seen, respected, and valued. To Reggie, being justice-impacted does not limit his value. It deepens his understanding of why opportunity and inclusion matter in every space.

Reentry is a spectrum. Opportunity should be too.

Pico-Union is getting cleaner and more people are getting access to long-term economic mobility.

In partnership with Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, CEO launched a new street cleaning crew in Council District 1 that connects formerly incarcerated Angelenos to transitional employment while supporting neighborhood beautification efforts across the community.

Thank you to The L.A. Local for highlighting this work and the impact of investing in reentry employment opportunities.

A huge win for reentry in Colorado!

Today, Governor Jared Polis signed the Reentry Readiness Act into law, ensuring that beginning January 1, 2027, every person leaving incarceration will have access to vital identification documents and the full $100 in gate money.

These resources can help people secure employment, access housing, and navigate the critical first days of reentry with stability and support.

This milestone reflects the power of justice-impacted people leading efforts to remove barriers and improve reentry outcomes for others returning home.

Expanding Pell Grant access to cover short-term, high-quality workforce training programs is a huge milestone—but it’s only the beginning.

In our latest think piece, Nadine Philips, CEO’s Senior Policy Associate, explores why the "real test" for Workforce Pell isn’t just about enrollment, but about the quality of the outcomes.

To truly break the cycle of recidivism, we must ensure that workforce training and credential programs are tied to high-demand careers and supported by robust reentry services.

Through Opportunity 2030, CEO is working to build the reentry infrastructure needed to ensure everyone returning from incarceration has access to stability, opportunity, and support from day one.

In a new think piece, Dr. Genevieve Rimer shares how CEO’s partnership with Arouet Foundation is helping advance that work in Arizona by expanding access to paid work-based learning programs and supporting efforts to unlock SNAP E&T funding for reentry services.

Coming home should mean finding safety, stability, and community. Yet LGBTQIA+ individuals returning from incarceration often face discrimination and systemic barriers that make rebuilding their lives even more difficult.

True justice means creating pathways to opportunity for everyone. At CEO, we stand with our LGBTQIA+ participants every day by providing the support, respect, and fair chances people deserve to build stable careers and successful futures.

It's unfortunate to share that the Fair Chance Improvement Act (AB 2095) was not brought to a floor vote in the California State Assembly before the legislative deadline.

For too many Californians returning home from incarceration, barriers to employment continue long after their sentence ends. AB 2095 would have strengthened fair chance protections by addressing harmful hiring practices, increasing transparency in the background check process, and expanding access to opportunity for qualified job seekers.

We will continue organizing, advocating, and building momentum to bring this legislation back next year.
