Earlier this month, a delegation of our students attended the 64th Annual Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference in Annapolis, Maryland. The event itself was a microcosm of the theme in action, "the Development of Civil-Military Relations in a New World Order." It brought civilian and military students together from all over the world to engage in discussions about the U.S. foreign policy issues of today. It demonstrated the importance of dialogue, understanding, and open communication between civilian leaders and members of the military. One student remarked that they learned that "people in the military are just normal beings like everyone else." This perspective and the social connections made are what it's all about and will surely carry over into the professional world. Mission accomplished! ✅👍

Thank you to the NAFAC organizers and the Naval Academy for hosting an incredibly insightful event. Excited for next year!

We like to treat every day like Earth Day, which is why we are proud to offer sustainability workshops as one of the core themes of our Global Classroom program! Our youth at NY Edge are currently learning about sustainability this semester through a global lens from our Global Guides, covering topics like carbon neutrality, climate change, and renewable energy, among many others!♻️

Ashton, a 7th grader at NY Edge, said that sustainability to him means “when you help society or help the world in an inspiring way.” How will you help the world in an inspiring way today?💫

Exciting Announcement! Tomorrow, James Rhee, a member of One To World’s Honoree Circle since 2019, is launching his new book, "red helicopter: a parable for our times." As a transformational leader, James bridges math with emotions by marrying capital with purpose. We are constantly inspired by James’ contributions, and we can’t wait to read this book📕

Jay Shetty, New York Times bestselling author, says "red helicopter is a transformative experience. James Rhee's story is a must read for anyone, of any age, who wishes to think, act, and lead with balance, agility, and wisdom."

“I am so hungry for Jollof rice now!” Youth at NY Edge loved connecting with Global Guide Bola over their shared love of Nigerian food🇳🇬

Not only did Bola connect with participants through teaching them about important aspects of Nigerian culture, but she also introduced them to the causes and effects of desertification on both the environment and the people of Nigeria. They even wrote letters to the Nigerian Minister of Agriculture urging him to take more action and presenting him with their own creative solutions✍️ These youth are making their voices heard to create a more sustainable future!

This week marks the end of Global Classroom at The Facing History School (Urban Arts) for the spring semester! It was an absolute pleasure to work with 12th graders as they grappled with different global and local issues with Global Guides each week as a part of their Government class. We hope that their evolving thoughts and discussions will provide them with a strong foundation for their role in the world as global citizens🌐

Although we are sad to be wrapping up for the semester, we greatly look forward to returning for the Fall 2024 semester!

Meet Francisco, a Global Guide from Nicaragua🇳🇮 He has worked with youth at two different partner schools this Spring, bringing to each group a unique perspective on culture and various social issues.

At ICAHN 4, he introduced economic sustainability to 6th-8th graders, taking them on a journey through Nicaragua’s natural resources, like pineapple🍍 At The Facing History School, he worked with 12th-graders to tackle the difficult topic of human rights violations, specifically within the Nicaraguan Social Security program.

Global Guides like Francisco are what make the Global Classroom program so special and impactful for NYC youth😊
