Yehonatan Ovadia – a Hasidic Jew and Israeli citizen who has lived in the U.S. on a visa since 2022 – is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (a notorious federal prison) and facing deportation … for his criticism of Israel on religious grounds.

To those who have supported the Trump Administration’s weaponizing of allegations of antisemitism: Do you see how preposterous this is? Nothing here is making Jews safer, it’s just using immigration enforcement to punish people for their political views.

And if you’re opposed to Ovadia’s deportation – as I hope you are – but you haven’t spoken out against Mahmoud Khalil’s or Mohsen Mahdawi’s: it’s not too late to do so.

You really don’t have to agree with people to agree on this: they shouldn’t be imprisoned or deported for their political views, or for their religion.

Yehonatan Ovadia, who opposed the mounting of the flag in a small New York town, belongs to a Hasidic branch that is anti-Zionist. He is now in ICE custody.

What a delight to meet Minnesota’s next great U.S. Senator Peggy Flanagan!

I was deeply inspired by the good neighbors I met in Minneapolis during the ICE occupation earlier this year. They showed the nation what it looks like to “fight, not fold” by rising up in solidarity when authoritarianism landed on their doorsteps.

Peggy exemplifies that good-neighbor spirit, clear moral compass, and steel-spine determination. Can’t wait to serve with her in Washington.

The choice for a safer New York is very clear:

Kathy Hochul & Adrienne Adams are on the side of fewer guns on our streets, and more harmony between New York’s communities.

Bruce Blakeman is on the side of more guns on our streets, in our neighborhoods, even in our houses of worship — and sowing distrust & hostility among New York’s communities.

It really is that simple.

Mayor Mamdani’s plan to combat antisemitism is a thoughtful, strategic combination of education for tolerance, enforcement of civil rights, and investments in safety.

It’s no secret that we don’t all agree on many things, from how we pray to how we relate to Israel, but we can all agree and work together on this: Jewish New Yorkers — like all New Yorkers, and in all our diversity — deserve to be and feel safe in our shuls, streets, homes and workplaces, and to feel a valued and integral part of this extraordinary city that has welcomed us, and where we have welcomed so many others.

MAGA Republicans tried to gerrymander the maps to steal two seats in Missouri. But their efforts were so blatantly illegal that even SCOTUS stopped them (three times … and yesterday for good).

We’ve now reached the point of “black site” hearings – secret, illegal hearings as part of Trump & Stephen Miller’s wretched crusade to detain & deport our immigrant neighbors.

Quite literally: hidden tribunals that disappear people.

When we win the majority, we’ll hold hearings to hold ICE, DHS, Miller, and the rest accountable for these crimes. For now, we’ll keep showing up to court-watch, to connect kids to lawyers, to support litigation, to object.

Grateful to Ezra Friedlander for our annual mini-minhag of going together to get the lulav & etrog for our sukkah!

Sukkot (with or without a nor’easter) reminds us how precarious we are — and that the best way to find protection is not thicker walls or AI-guided weapons, but by welcoming guests & strangers, remembering what is sacred, and working for shared safety.
