“Connecting authenticity with Communities” is on the Soloviev Group website.

ByeBuyNewYork has written Soloviev asking if Soloviev can honor this pledge and save the LAST house on West 57th.

Soloviev owned many buildings on West 57 that have all been demolished-35W57 is next. 😡

Hmmm? Connecting with communities-what about NYC? What about VAST community of architects, preservationists, historians, concerned and fed up residents as well as tourists who want SOME of the history of NYC saved ?

What about the community of NYC not in favor of the outrageous and unneeded supertall development that has permanently destroyed the NYC skyline, cherished vistas, historical significance, density, environmental safety, desirability, and uniqueness?

“SAVE ME” indeed.

The last original home on West 57th, this charming West 50s architectural gem shown below, will soon be destroyed by Soloviev Group.

It is the final nail in the coffin on this legendary historic street -building after building -destroyed by developers.

On the Soloviev website they have a “community building” page promoting how they connect authentically with communities worldwide-Ha! Really?

SAVE the West Village from a 538 ft super tall luxury condo! Tell Mayor Mamdani and City Officials to correct false zoning text and to not allow 5 West 13th (photographs below) and other supertall super luxury towers to be built in our historic neighborhoods.

On the left is a picture of the 1710 Broadway Building. It was an elegant architectural jewel that once stood on the corner of West 54th and Broadway. The 102 year- old building provided historic character to an area struggling to maintain its historic character and cultural excellence.

The photo on the right shows the development now going up (quickly)where the 1710 Broadway building once stood.

Did the developer save the exterior of the building to maintain the historic character of the area? NO
Is the owner putting up needed housing? NO
Is the developer respectively building based on the area aka historic residential and cultural landmarks? NO
Is this area considered Times Square? NO

The building in progress will be a 70 plus story supertall RIU hotel, part of a hotel chain that standardly receives 1.5 stars out of 5 stars.

This hotel will lower our former architectutal standards, as many supertall have, darken our streets, stab our sky, overcrowd and destroy another neighborhood block that now only has just two historic residential buildings.

In an area FILLED with hotels fighting for occupancy, in an area dotted with beautiful residential buildings, in an area known worldwide for such of historic treasures like the Ed SullivanTheater, Carnegie Hall, and The City Center-in honor of Halloween BBNY says BOOOOO!!!

Zoning Variance Application for 203-ft.-Tall Meatpacking District Tower Returns Next Wednesday: Write Today!

(l.) 51 Little West 12th Street (vacant lot behind lamppost) currently and (r.) diagram of the 203-ft.-tall luxury residential tower a zoning variance would allow to be built there.
The application for a zoning variance to allow construction of 203-ft.-tall luxury residential high-rise at 51 Little West 12th Street in the Meatpacking District returns to Community Board 2’s Land Use and Housing Committee next Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 pm. The application requests permission to build a substantially larger structure than current rules permit, and to allow residential development in a zone where it’s prohibited. The rationale for the application is that the owner claims he suffers from a “hardship” wherein he cannot develop the property within the existing rules and still make a “reasonable return.”

The basis for this hardship claim is spurious at best, given the extreme desirability of the location between the High Line and Hudson River Park across from the Whitney Museum, and the variance’s approval would set a dangerous precedent, allowing others to make similar claims to subvert existing zoning rules. Village Preservation opposes the application and is urging Community Board 2 to reject it. The board committee will decide their position at the upcoming meeting, following last month’s public hearing (the board’s calendar indicates that public testimony won’t be taken at this meeting — this could change — though the public can register to attend and listen in person or via Zoom).

The Center at West Park (CWP) hosted a star studded event last night to raise awareness and funds in their fight to save the West Park Presbyterian Church. Twenty-one exemplary actors took the stage to perform an exhilarating reading of one of the most lauded satires and profoundly prophetic plays of all time: NETWORK.

The cast included Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Bobby Cannavale, Julianna Margulies, Keegan-Micheal Key, Fisher Stevens, David Rasche, Brian D’Arcy James, Richard Kind, and other incredible screen and stage actors; directed by Tom McCarthy.

At earlier events, BBNY has seen leading actors, writers and directors -Kenneth Lonergan, Matthew Broderick, Laurence Fishburne, Laura Linney, Amy Schumer and many others to help SAVE CWP!

Like “us” at BBNY, who love NYC, our landmarks, and the arts, these artists recognize the significance of the CWP and how it represents and serves as a historic and legendary cultural resource that is vital to NYC.

Though landmarked in 2010, this architecturally beautiful and historically significant building may be demolished!
The 135 year old building has served as an important inclusive intergenerational community center for decades.
