Former middle school teacher Ernest Nichols was serving a 15-year sentence after being convicted of repeatedly sxually absing a 15-year-old girl over a six-month period. In October 2025, the 60-year-old was found d*ad beside his bunk at Greene Correctional Institution in North Carolina. Authorities later charged fellow inmate Wilbert Baldwin with his m*rder. Baldwin was already serving a 20-year sentence for second-degree m*rder. Nichols had been a physical education teacher at Ransom Middle School in Charlotte for 14 years before his arrest.

Victor Perez was “beyond scared” when he spotted a truck matching the description of one used to abd*ct an 8-year-old girl in Fresno. Instead of waiting, he chased the vehicle, repeatedly trying to force it off the road. When Perez finally blocked the truck, the kdnpper pushed the girl out. She ran to safety, telling Perez, “I’m scared.” Police later arrested Gregorio Gonzalez, who was accused of abd*cting and sxually assulting the child. More than 130 officers had joined the search, but Fresno’s police chief said Perez’s bravery may have been the reason the girl was recovered alive.
