During the Board of Commissioners meeting on September 8, the Board took the following actions:

📜 Consent Agenda:
- Confirmed ex*****on of a proclamation designating September 17-23 as “Constitution Week” in Coweta County, recognizing the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.
- Confirmed ex*****on of a proclamation designating September as “National Recovery Month” in Coweta County, supporting awareness of substance-use recovery and community resources.
- Confirmed ex*****on of a proclamation designating September 18, 2026 as “POW/MIA” Recognition Day in Coweta County, honoring service members who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action.

📢 Public Hearings:
- Held a public hearing regarding the request to add distilled spirits to an existing wholesale beer and wine license held by Willie Curry, the Regional Vice President in operation of Buffalo Rock Company located at 50 North Christopher Court, Newnan. The request was approved.

🏗 Recommendations from Community Development and/or the Board of Zoning Appeals:
- Approved acceptance of Roadways and a Deed of Open Space Restriction associated with property located in the Chapel Hill Subdivision, Phase 4A.

During the Board of Commissioners meeting on August 25, the Board took the following actions:

📜 Awards & Presentations:
- The Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) presented Georgia Representative Lynn Smith, who is retiring, with the 2026 Legislative Service Award. The award honors Georgia General Assembly members who demonstrate exceptional leadership, collaboration and commitment to issues affecting Georgia county governments and local communities.

📢 Public Hearings:
- Conducted the third and final public hearing on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget, fulfilling all state-required public hearing obligations prior to adoption.
- Set the 2026 Millage Rates following the required public hearing.
- A public hearing was held for Rezoning Petition 26-10, filed by BAF Enterprises, Inc., requesting to rezone property at 6599 Highway 16 East, Senoia (District 1) from C-6 to C-8 for an automatic car wash. The petition was approved.
- A public hearing was held for Variance Petition 26-15, also filed by BAF Enterprises, Inc., requesting a natural buffer variance from 75-feet to 20-feet (55-feet reduction) for property located at 6599 Highway 16 East, Senoia (District 1). The petition was approved.
- A continuation public hearing was held for Rezoning Petition 24-20, filed by LDO Coweta, LLC requesting to rezone property located at Walt Sanders Road, Newnan (District 3) from Industrial with conditions (Mc) to Industrial (M) for a data center campus. The petition was denied.

The Coweta County Board of Commissioners unanimously denied the rezoning application for the proposed Project Oak data center Tuesday.

County officials received 121 letters of opposition from 112 individuals and none in support. Commissioners did not discuss the application before voting unanimously to deny it.

During the Board of Commissioners meeting on August 11, the Board took the following actions.

📜 Proclamations:
- Confirmed ex*****on of a proclamation designating August 11, 2026 as “Safe Digging Day” in Coweta County.

📢 Budget & Millage Rate Public Hearings:
- Continued a public hearing on the Proposed Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. The budget will be adopted by the Board at the next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m.
- Held the first public hearing regarding the 2026 Millage Rates. The calculated rollback millage rate for 2026 is 3.756 mills. The proposed County M&O rate is 4.011 mills (a 6.80% increase). Since it is above the rollback rate, three public hearings must take place.
- The second and third public hearings will take place on Tuesday, August 25 at 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- The Board will adopt the millage rate on Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 p.m.

📝 Special Use Permits and Ordinance Amendments:
- Approved a special use permit for Steve Watkins, agent for Gulfsouth Towers, for a proposed telecommunications tower for property located at 2257 Old Corinth Road.
- Recommended more discussion regarding a proposed amendment to Appendix A. Zoning and Development, Article 26 regarding overlay districts of the Coweta County Code of Ordinances (QDCD). The public hearing was closed with no vote.
