Diabetes and high blood pressure are two leading causes of kidney disease.

Protect your kidneys by knowing your numbers:

⚖️ Weight

Early detection matters. Small daily changes can protect your long-term health.

CGM = Continuous Glucose Monitoring
T2D = Type 2 Diabetes

Continuous glucose monitors can help people with type 2 diabetes better understand their blood sugar patterns in real time. For some patients not using insulin, CGM use has been linked to improved time in range and A1C reductions.

It’s not just for insulin users—CGM can support lifestyle changes, food awareness, medication conversations, and better diabetes self-management.

Coverage may vary by insurance, so talk with your provider or pharmacist to see if CGM is right for you.

🌿 **Take a Breath. Reset Your Body.**

Sometimes the simplest wellness tool is the one we carry with us every day: our breath.

Deep breathing can help calm the body, lower stress, and give your mind a moment to reset. A simple rhythm is:

**Breathe in. Hold. Breathe out.** ([EdLogics][1])

Try this today:

✨ Breathe in slowly through your nose
✨ Hold for a few seconds
✨ Breathe out slowly through your mouth
✨ Repeat 3–5 times

At **The Ames Foundation**, we believe small daily habits can support better heart health, kidney health, and overall wellness.

Pause. Breathe. Reset.

Living Donor Support Opportunity (DMV Area) đź’š

If you or someone you know is considering becoming a living kidney donor, this is something you need to see.

The American Kidney Fund is offering support through their Living Donor Assistance Program for individuals in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

This program helps reduce financial barriers for living donors—because choosing to give the gift of life shouldn’t come with added stress.

✨ What this means:

* Support for living donors
* Financial assistance to ease the process
* Increased access to life-saving transplants

As someone who received a kidney transplant, I know firsthand how powerful and life-changing living donation is. Programs like this make it more possible for people to step forward and save lives.

Please share this—someone in your network could be the reason another person gets a second chance at life.

Excited to share a new project announcement!

The Ames Foundation is proud to partner with the Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts through the **Building Bridges Learning Community**, an initiative connected to the American Public Health Association’s Center for Public Health Policy.

Together, we are working to strengthen community-based health education, prevention, early awareness, and support for heart and kidney health across our communities.

This partnership reflects our commitment to bridging community voice, public health practice, and systems-level collaboration to improve health outcomes.

More updates coming soon as we continue building this work.

Every mother deserves to be heard, supported, and safe.

Let’s continue to uplift, educate, and take action—not just this week, but every day.

đź’¬ What does maternal health equity look like in your community?

Happy ! It’s been almost a decade of centering Black birthing people y'all!!!! This time of year takes me back. Check out this pic. We were so excited when we found out we were expecting. We didn’t event change our wedding plans. I just made sure to get a dress that would fit.

But we were also so innocent. I wish we had known what we know now. I didn’t fully understand the disparities in care Black women had been experiencing until I experienced it myself.

is a time to center Black mamas, to spread awareness and to shout from the rooftops that safety, culturally congruent care and joy is possible in pregnancy, birth, and throughout our postpartum Journeys. There is a community of Reproductive Justice activists, advocates and community health care professionals and legislation that need our support! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

March is National Kidney Month đź’š

As a kidney transplant recipient, this is more than awareness—it’s personal.

I’m standing with kidney patient advocates across the country pushing for better access, early detection, and support for those living with kidney disease. From protecting living donors to expanding home dialysis and education—this work matters.

You can stand with us from home. It only takes a minute to add your voice:
