This is Bill Miller, and I currently serve on the Cocke County Legislative Body for District 1, Post 2.
You are going to hear — or may have already heard — that I voted in favor of zoning, and that is correct. When you hear “one down, six to go,” I am one of the six they are referring to in that statement.
Here is the reality: Do we need to make some changes to what was passed in 2025? Yes. But we absolutely need to protect our community from the many issues that can arise when there is no zoning in place.
I lived in Sevier County in the early 2000s and witnessed firsthand what a lack of regulations can do to a mountainside. I watched an entire mountain stripped down to red dirt. I do not want to see that happen in our county.
You only have to drive down Industrial Road to see the kind of mess the county will be be dealing with for many years to come. If you do not know what I am referring to, take a drive and see it for yourself.
I want to protect and preserve the beauty of our county while also making sure growth is responsible and sustainable.
If you disagree with my position and choose to vote for my opponent, I respect that decision. At the end of the day, the important thing is that you vote.
