Newport Ambulance Recognizes Team Behind Cardiac Arrest Save NEWPORT, VT — August 14, 2026
Newport Ambulance hosted a special presentation last night recognizing the individuals whose quick actions, teamwork, and dedication helped save the life of a patient following a cardiac arrest.
The event brought together members of the 911 communications team, Newport Ambulance providers, hospital staff, and the patient’s family to recognize the successful resuscitation and the coordinated care that followed.
Awards were presented to:
911 Call Taker Emily Reece, Emergency Dispatcher Emily Leinoff, VEFR Dylan Messier, Paramedic Jeffrey Johansen, Paramedic Frank Maloney, EMT Amanda Hoffman, Dr. Baer, RN Kathy DiCarlo, in recognition of their important roles in the patient’s care.
From the initial 911 call through emergency dispatch, arrival of first responders, advanced life support, and continued hospital care, each member of the team played an important part in giving the patient the best possible chance of survival.
Newport Ambulance also welcomed the patient’s family to the presentation, making the evening especially meaningful for everyone involved. Cardiac arrest saves are rarely the result of one person’s actions. They are the result of a chain of survival, with each link from the 911 call to definitive hospital care—working together.
Newport Ambulance Division Supervisor Robert Jacobs expressed appreciation to everyone involved, emphasizing that this recognition is a testament to the dedication of emergency dispatchers, first responders, EMS providers, hospital clinicians, and the community.
“We are extremely proud of this team and grateful for the opportunity to recognize everyone who played a role in this save,” Jacobs said. “A successful cardiac arrest resuscitation is truly a team effort, and this event highlights what can happen when every link in the chain of survival works together.”
The presentation served not only as a recognition of the individuals involved, but also as a reminder of the importance of early recognition of cardiac arrest, rapid activation of 911, high-quality CPR, effective emergency dispatch, advanced EMS care, and coordinated hospital treatment.
