FYI

Dear Friends, Families, and Community Members,

It is with heavy hearts that we share some difficult news. Due to funding changes, our learning center at this location will be closing its doors on May 31, 2026.

This decision has not come easily. Our center has always been more than a building — it has been a place of encouragement, second chances, growth, and community. Because of you — our students, families, staff, partners, and supporters — we have been able to make a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

Over the years many graduates have walked through our doors and crossed the stage, each one representing perseverance, hope, and possibility. Watching those students achieve their goals has been the greatest privilege of our work.

We are deeply grateful for every student who trusted us with their journey, every staff member who poured their heart into this mission, and every community partner who stood beside us. Your support has meant more than words can express.

While this chapter is coming to a close, the impact of this learning center will live on in the lives of the students and families we’ve served. Thank you for believing in this work and in the power of education to change lives.

While our doors are closing in this location, we will continue to offer a virtual option for completing your high school diploma! Registration for the fall of 2026 will begin on May 1, 2026!

Watch for enrollment information on this page or connect with the staff at your learning center to get registered for next year. Our Adult Virtual staff can’t wait to walk alongside you, and they look forward to celebrating your success.

Please let us know if you have any questions! We are here to help and support you!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Abby Brandt, Site Director

Harvey County RSVP volunteers will be serving up soups for its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service project. RSVP will hold a soup dinner Tuesday, Jan. 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Main St. in Newton.

The soup dinner is in coordination with Harvey County Circle of Hope. Circle of Hope is a program of Peace Connections which strives to assist families and improve their financial stability and education.

The event is free and open to the public. Soups will include chicken and noodles, chili and cheddar broccoli. This is RSVP's ninth MLK Day service project, but this year's soup dinner is a new format for the volunteers.

RSVP is a local group of volunteers 55 and older who utilize their experience and expertise to contribute to community programs and organizations. If you're interested in becoming an RSVP volunteer, contact Mary Wilson in the Harvey County Department on Aging at 316-284-6881.

I wanted to share the Harvey County RSVP 9/11 Community Service Project in honor of our Harvey County Community first responders. As a community, we can pack the shelves at the Salvation Army Harvey County.

Harvey County RSVP volunteers will lead their service project to recognize first responders Saturday, Sept. 14 for the Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.

RSVP volunteers will be stationed at both Dillons locations in Newton Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to collect food donations. Shoppers can purchase items while inside the grocery store, then make their contributions as they exit. The Salvation Army in Harvey County will be the recipient of the gathered donations.

Harvey County RSVP is part of the national AmeriCorps Seniors program. Our volunteers are people 55 and older who share their experience and skill sets in ways to benefit and give back to their communities. This is Harvey County RSVP's ninth year for this service project.
