Western New York Service Learning Coalition

Western New York Service Learning Coalition Founded in 2001, The Western New York Service-Learning Coalition (WNYSLC) is a growing collaboration of colleges, universities and community organizations.

The vision of the WNYSLC is to become the hub for service-learning in Western New York and to serve as a conduit for community organizations seeking service-learning students as well as for higher education institutions placing them. The WNYSLC now has 13 higher education institution members and over 130 community organization members. Those interested in engaging college students in service are invited and encouraged to participate in the Coalition.

Mission: The Western New York Service-Learning Coalition (WNYSLC) is a collaboration of colleges, universities and community organizations. We are committed to sharing resources, knowledge, and practices related to service-learning in an effort to strengthen campus-community partnerships and promote student engagement in the community.

With deep sadness, we share with you that this past Thursday, Dr. Marilynn Fleckenstein, Professor Emeritus and past administrator at Niagara University, passed away.

Nearly twenty years ago, Dr. Fleckenstein, along with administrators from other area colleges, founded the Western New York Service Learning Coalition. She later served as the coalition's Executive Director from 2013 until her retirement in 2017. She remained a friend and close advisor to the coalition even after her retirement.

Dr. Fleckenstein's career in higher education spanned over 51 years, and her impact on the WNY community and beyond is immeasurable. She inspired all around her through her service, leadership, and commitment to our community.

Dr. Fleckenstein was a gift to all of us in Western New York and we are so very grateful for the opportunity to know and learn from her. A funeral and celebration of Dr. Fleckenstein's life will be held at a later date. Let us all keep Marilynn's family, including her children and grandchildren, in our hearts during this very difficult time.

Included in the comments are links to Dr. Marilynn Fleckenstein's death notice in both the Niagara Gazette and The Buffalo News.
