⭐️Now’s the time to take positive action together⭐️

Suffragettes and suffragists knew that no matter where you came from, there was always something you could do to protest inequality. Organise meetings, write articles, raise funds, make banners, speak out, and refuse to stay silent.

Today, as the manosphere rears its ugly head, now's the time to get active – even if some of the forms of activism look different.

Activism Then vs Now

Public meetings ➡️Community campaigns (online & offline)
Pamphlets ➡️ Social media

Petitioning Parliament ➡️ Online petitions
Building local groups ➡️ Creating online communities

Today, our tools may be digital rather than printed, and our meetings may happen online as well as in community halls, but the purpose is unchanged: to educate, organise, support one another and work towards a fairer society.

The tools have changed. The need to stand together hasn't!

Gloria Steinem has passed on.

The best way I can process this is to tell you a story…
I was doing outreach in a tent in downtown Indianapolis. A women-owned bread company invited women vendors and non profits to come set up pop up tents once a month. I was there with Gals Guide and we were selling used books to raise funds.

One visitor came and learned what Gals Guide does and recommended that we offer homeschool classes and she asserted she meant Christian homeschool children. Then she said, “but you’ll have to turn around the books like Gloria Steinem.”

I politely told her no we would not turn around any books, people can come and go from the space but we will not censor books.

After she left I turned to Barb, who was vending with me, and said, “if she thinks the Gloria Steinem books are too much, what if she saw the rest of Gals Guide? Gloria is an easy read compared to the rest of the feminist books we have!”

Gals Guide is an extension of the seeds Gloria Steinem planted. Her words, actions, and influences will continue to grow in millions of women. The world was better because Gloria was in it.
