Posting for the Fairhaven Cemetery Board;

Dear Residents & Friends of Carroll County,

Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching. There are well over 150 known cemeteries and family burial plots in Carroll County according to the Carroll County Genealogy web site. (http://carroll.mogenweb.org/cemeteries.htm) The web site is very interesting and includes maps of their locations.

Please remember as you go to the graves of your loved ones that someone is taking care of the cemeteries. Even though many of the cemetery associations set aside money for perpetual care costs continue to increase and interest rates on savings have decreased. All cemeteries continue to struggle with these factors and do the best they can to make sure the grounds look their best for Memorial Day.

Fairhaven Cemetery has recently graveled the roads at a cost of over $2,000.00 and the annual mowing bill is well over $10,000.00. Some years if it is wet, the cemetery grounds need weekly mowing and w**d eating. We are also looking into applying w**d control and fertilizer, all of which is expensive and will eventually increase mowing requirements. To pay for just the mowing we need to have deposits of over $1,000,000.00 at a current interest rate of 1% cover the cost. We do not nearly have those kinds of funds on hand. The cemetery board must weigh current expenditures versus decreasing the principal balance of our endowment fund. Board members do not want to leave the next generation a bigger problem than we have today.

Please be part of the solution by contributing to the cemeteries your loved ones are interred in. Consider spending less on flowers this year and donate to the cemeteries of your choice. I assure you any amount no matter how small will be put to good use. All the Cemetery Associations would be most appreciative.

Sincerely,

Cathy Francis
Treasurer, Norborne Cemetery Association
Fairhaven Cemetery

Just a reminder when going to the polls tomorrow:

✔ YES to continue the existing Special Street Tax. It enables City Hall to make the payments ($2,800/month) on the chip & seal project you approved four years ago. If it doesn't pass, the payment will come out of revenues needed to maintain the streets.
Best Regards,
Natalie
