Corners Outreach

Corners Outreach Equipping Metro Atlanta's underserved students of color and their families to lead full lives.

A study from Northeastern University found that high school dropouts cost taxpayers $292,000 over the course of their lives. In the communities where we focus, the Board of Education in DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett states that High School graduation is
70% Caucasians, 64% African American, 55% Hispanics, and 35% ESOL. A recent study shows that students who do not read proficiently by third grade

are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. So we can be most effective in decreasing the dropout rate by tutoring elementary age students and showing parents the value of education. In 2012, we partnered with Berkeley Lake Elementary to begin an education focused program, Corners Academy, which provides after school tutoring as well as a summer camp in Norcross, GA. Soon after we partnered with two other elementary schools, Hightower Elementary and Beaver Ridge Elementary. While building relationships with the parents of our students, we found that many had more than two jobs. In 2017, we started Corners Industries, a career initiative which exists to break cycles of poverty.

Meet the Familia Reyes-Moretti-Crespo πŸ’™

A few years ago, Libia began our English to Employment classes with one quiet dream in her heart: to become a U.S. citizen. She worked hard, stayed determined, and accomplished that dream.

But somewhere along the way, something beautiful happened. What started with Libia soon became something the whole family stepped into together.

Her grandsons joined Corners Academy, receiving academic support, building friendships, and creating opportunities. Their parents showed up to volunteer with soccer and even joined programs like Mujeres Imparables.

And this year, Fernando graduated high school, an incredible milestone accomplishment πŸŽ“

Looking at this photo, it’s hard not to think about how much can grow from one brave step.

To the Reyes-Moretti-Crespo family, thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. It has been a joy to watch your family grow, serve, and celebrate these milestones together. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Corners family. 🫢🏽

T-5 Days until Summer Camp starts and we need YOUR help! β˜€οΈπŸ“š

In just 5 days, our students will walk through the doors ready for a summer full of learning, growth, and fun. But before camp begins, we need your help to make sure they have everything they need to thrive.

Your support helps provide the snacks, activities, supplies, and resources that keep students engaged, supported, and on track in their education all summer long.

Together, we can make this an incredible summer filled with learning, confidence, and opportunity πŸ’™

Meet Axel Paredes πŸ’™

During Spirit Week, Axel showed up every day with energy, enthusiasm, and school spirit, helping create a classroom environment full of positivity and joy. But what makes Axel truly special goes far beyond dressing up and participating.

Axel has consistently grasped new concepts quickly. What impressed us most was that he never kept that knowledge to himself. Whether helping classmates understand a lesson, encouraging peers to stay on task, or even explaining concepts to his teacher, Axel’s natural curiosity and generosity made him a leader in the classroom.

Because of his love for learning and exceptional academic growth, Axel was tested for the Gifted Program, and we are so proud to share that he was accepted! πŸŽ‰

We are so proud of you, Axel! 🌟

Economic mobility starts with opportunity.

Through workforce development, adults in our community gain practical skills, confidence, and pathways toward stronger employment opportunities.

When parents have access to education and career growth, families become more stable, benefitting children too.

Investing in parents is investing in the future of an entire family. πŸ’™

How a child spends summer can change their trajectory.

Research shows that when children fall behind over the summer, the gap doesn’t just pause. It grows year after year, making it harder to catch up.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

At Corners Outreach, we turn summer into a season of learning, belonging, and opportunity.

πŸ‘Ά For our youngest learners, summer builds early literacy and confidence so they walk into Kindergarten ready to thrive.

πŸ“š For our K–8 students, summer becomes a place to strengthen reading and math skills, experience hands-on enrichment, and go on educational field trips.

🌱 And for our teens, they don’t just attend summer school… they lead it. Our Camp Counselor in Training (CCIT) program gives high school students real leadership experience as they mentor younger children and discover their own potential.

This summer, we will serve 355 children, for less than $15 per child, per day, providing:
🍎 meals and snacks
πŸ“– academic support
🎨 enrichment activities
🚍 field trips
🌟 leadership development

The total investment to make this possible is $161,000.

Government funding covers the basics, but it’s donors like YOU who make it exceptional.

πŸ’™ Help us make this summer unforgettable by making a gift today at https://cornersoutreach.org/donate-summer!

This past weekend, we hosted our annual Student Celebration β€” an opportunity to recognize students from each program whose hard work, perseverance, growth, and commitment stood out this year.

Each director gets to award their student and share a few words about why they were chosen. Hearing the stories behind each recognition is always powerful. From academic growth to leadership, resilience, consistency, and personal milestones, every story reflects the dedication of our students AND the families walking alongside them every step of the way.

Watching our families grow in confidence, overcome challenges, and continue showing up for themselves and their futures is what makes moments like this so meaningful.

Congratulations to this year’s celebrated students β€” and thank you to every family, mentor, and supporter helping make growth like this possible. We are so proud of how far our students have come and excited for all that is still ahead. πŸ’™

πŸ“ An unforgettable experience for our students!

19 students from our DeKalb Academy had the incredible opportunity to attend a professional pickleball match and experience the excitement of the sport up close.

But they didn’t just watch... they got to step onto the court and learn how to play from Teen Pickleball Pros signed to actual teams! Watching our students try something new, build confidence, and learn directly from talented young athletes was inspiring and so much fun.

For most of our students, this was their very first time playing pickleball, and they absolutely loved it! One student, despite playing for the first time, picked it up so quickly that he even impressed the Pros.

Experiences like this matter. They expose our students to new opportunities, challenge them to step outside their comfort zones, and create moments they’ll remember for years to come.

A huge thank you to Veolia - North America for inviting us to be their guests and for creating such a meaningful experience for our students. From cheering on professional athletes to building new skills and confidence on the court, you opened the door to new experiences for so many of our students. πŸ’™
