This is the official FaceBook Page of USS KEARSARGE (LHD 3).
Congratulations to IS2 Berry on his reenlistment and decision to stay Navy.
Congratulations to the newest Air Warfare qualified member of team Kearsarge, AOAN Hernandez.
Happy 245th Birthday USMC!
As an amphibious assault ship our primary mission is to transport Marines and their equipment when and where needed so our colors are just as much “green” as they are “blue.” When Marines embark, they account for nearly half of the ship’s total population of approximately 2,400 service members. The three pictured here though are part of our crew!
CWO Taylor and GYSGT Brostrand are assigned to our Combat Cargo department. They are the conduit between the embarked Marines and Kearsarge Navy leadership for all USMC loading, transport, and berthing matters. We also have a USMC Air Operations officer who helps integrate and synchronize USN/USMC air movements (not pictured).
We also have Senior Chief Electronics Technician Greg Reno who is presently our Maintenance, Material, Management coordinator (3MC) but originally enlisted as a Marine. He later reenlisted in the Navy but once a Marine, always a Marine!
Today we recognize our fellow sea service for their legacy of support to our nation and thank those aboard Kearsarge for their roles in contributing to our mission. Semper fi and hoorah, Marines!!! SALUTE!
Another week of progress aboard KEARSARGE as we ready our ship for operations. Our Engineering Department successfully completed our Engineering Light-Off Assessment cold checks and main space fire drill this week with an overall 99.2 percent passing grade! This is well above the 87 percent fleet average. Huge thanks to our Engineers for their grit, toughness, and skill to get us to this point. All of your hard work and effort is coming together, Shipmates. I am very proud of all you have done.
This team effort would also not have been possible without the support of our Supply Department and their logistics support getting critical parts and materials on station on time. BZ Supply team!
And last but not least, our Damage Control organization, led by trainers from across every department on the ship to the repair locker personnel comprised of multiple departments who all came together to prove we are ready to fight the ship. You gave your best effort KEARSARGE and it was proven this week.
Our next areas of focus are our SMC and LOA hot checks. It’s game time and our team is on a hot streak! Keep on the press! We are Proud, Trustworthy, and BOLD!
Congratulations to HM1 Fann, HM2 Pobdinga and HM2 Chepkoech on their reenlistments and decision to stay Navy! We are grateful to retain such tremendous talent!
It was also good to see an old Shipmate (Lt. Marte) who returned to support his Navy family. This truly was a great Navy day!

Congratulations MR2 Woodward on your reenlistment and decision to stay Navy!
Yesterday we hosted students from the U.S. Marine Corps Marine Air Ground Task Force Intelligence Officers Course for familiarization of some of the spaces and places they will apply their skills upon completion of their training. This tour provided these students with greater contextual awareness to reflect on during their classroom learning.
Congratulations MR2 Antonio Pascual for your recent award and recognition! Thanks for always giving your best effort! BZ Shipmate!
Congratulations to our Sailors of the quarter, 4th quarter 2020. Bravo Zulu!

Another safe and successful navigation evolution! It’s great to be back home at Naval Station Norfolk.
Time to set our sights on Light-Off Assessment (LOA)—Inspect us ANYTIME! We are ready to train, ready to fight!
Yesterday we returned to our homeport at Naval Station Norfolk after completing a maintenance availability at NASSCO-Norfolk. We are now transitioning to a new operational phase. The pride and professionalism displayed by this crew will ensure the readiness of this command for current and future crews’ missions and operations.
Thanks to Navigation and Deck Department and all the watch teams for getting us here safely! Hooyah Team Kearsarge!
This week we celebrated our Navy’s 245th birthday and commemorated LHD 3’s 27th anniversary since its commissioning Oct. 16, 1993.
Since the days of sail the name Kearsarge has been in the fleet and a part of our great Navy’s legacy—some traditions never change. We WILL continue to maintain naval supremacy and we WILL continue to fight and win our nation’s battles.
Kearsarge Air Department is ALWAYS inspection ready!
As a reminder we shift to our Service Dress Blue Uniforms October 19. As such uniform inspections have been a common sight onboard Kearsarge. Looking sharp and looking smart, Air Department!
Today our Diversity and Heritage Committee supported by our Supply department led us in a joint celebration commemorating the 245th birthday of our U.S. Navy and the 27th anniversary of Kearsarge's commissioning. Great job team!
Happy Birthday Shipmates!

Yesterday we said goodbye to the barge we lived, worked, and broke bread in during this shipyard maintenance period. Next major move will be us! Great job KEARSARGE!
Our damage control training team has been hard at work preparing our repair lockers for an upcoming light-off assessment. The teams are looking sharp. We are ready to take back the ship!
Yesterday we celebrated the grand reopening of the ship's main galley! Our Supply and Engineering departments supported by a whole of ship effort made it possible. We now have food services, medical services, and berthings/staterooms restored on the ship. This has been a tremendous week of progress for Kearsarge. Keep it up team! Take back the ship!
Back in our racks! Kearsarge took a giant leap forward today and toward normal operations as all hands pulled together to move out of the barge and back on the ship. Each day we continue to take back the ship!
Train like you fight! The Air Department aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) practices firefighting on the ship's flight deck in preparation to certify the flight deck for a return to operations at sea.
Fair winds and following seas Lt. Cmdr. Williams!
Corrosion control = material condition and preservation readiness. Our Deck Department and Corrosion Control Team lead KEARSARGE preservation readiness efforts. Given the environment, it’s no easy task. Here’s how we and the rest of the fleet get it done.
A Typical Day in the U.S. Navy: Preserving our ships and ensuring material readiness. We are in a constant battle against corrosion. The harsh environment in which we operate degrades our ships and threatens readiness. Through good stewardship and a little Sailor muscle, we ensure the highest level of care and cleanliness aboard our ships. Material readiness is an important step toward being combat ready!
