Enrolling NOW! Gateway Academy offers career training to qualifying Norfolk residents receiving SNAP benefits as well as one of these criteria:

• Misdemeanor or felony convictions (some convictions may exclude participation in certain programs)
• 18-49 years old with no dependents or exemptions on SNAP case
• Youth or adult 17-27 years old transitioning from foster care

All City of Norfolk’s government offices, libraries and recreation centers will be closed on Friday, January 21, due to the impending winter storm. The closures include the offices of the Commissioner of the Revenue and City Treasurer as well as the Norfolk Courthouse.

Waste Management plans to provide regular refuse collection on Friday, January 21. This includes scheduled bulk and yard waste collection. TFC Recycling will also follow their normal collection schedule. The start time may be delayed if road conditions become hazardous overnight.

The York Street Garage will be open starting Thursday, January 20, at 5 p.m. until Sunday, January 23, at 5 p.m. Street parking is removed downtown to allow for plowing operations along Boush Street, Granby Street, Plume Street, Main Street, City Hall Avenue (in front of Fairfax Building), and the 400 Block of Monticello Avenue.

Public Works crews will start plowing once snow depth reaches 2 inches and conditions are safe to do so. The focus is on primary roads and emergency facilities. We do not plow neighborhood streets. Please use caution, if you have to be on the roads.

Below are important contact numbers to report:
A water main break to Department of Utilities at (757) 823-1000.
A power outage or downed power lines to Dominion at (866) 366-4357.
A natural gas leak or emergency to Virginia Natural Gas at (877) 572.3342.

This could be big: Winter storm watch issued as Hampton Roads braces for possible heavy snowfall

In light of impending weather, Park Place Dental will be close on Friday, 1/21/22 and re-open normal hours on Tuesday 1/25/22 at 10 am.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina beginning late Thursday, when the first system is forecast to arrive. The second is expected Friday night into Saturday and could bring heavy snow.

Happy Friday all!
As of now, we have re-opened on a limited basis. The city of Norfolk has allowed us back in our building on Thursday and Friday's only with the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This means we are working with a very limited schedule of availability of getting patients both screened for their applications and seen by a provider. Starting next week, we will start allowing walk-in's for screenings DURING the hours of 10:30-2 on Thursday and Fridays. Once all of our appointments are booked, we will no longer accept applications and you will need to try back next week. Since we limited with our time here, we ask that you come prepared with all your necessary paperwork needed for your application and the $25 fee so that we can get you scheduled.

We do not know when the city will open our building back full time and continue to urge our patients to contact their local city official to inquire when our building will be opened full time again.
And as always, please be patient with us. It has hit us hard too being closed for over a year with no control over the situation. Like most, we have been trying our best to maintain funding sources and help as many as we can while working during these challenging times.

Get out and Vote!!

Today is Election Day! Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Voters are encouraged to bring a valid ID, wear a face covering and maintain 6ft of separation from the poll workers and other voters. Curbside voting is available at all locations for voters unable to come inside or those without a face covering.

For your safety, the number of voters inside a polling place will be limited at one time. Workers will sanitize booths/tables in between voters.

Voters may deliver their voted absentee ballot to their polling place on Election Day. We will have drop boxes available at all locations and voters will not have to wait in line to use the drop box.

Starting October 24, Slover Library has new operating hours for first floor browsing and Grab-n-Go. Beginning November 2, Norfolk Public Library will reopen three additional neighborhood branches and Norfolk Recreation, Parks & Open Space will reopen indoor pools.

We are still here! Right now we are in a situation with the City of Norfolk in regards to shutting down our building, but we are working hard to establish a new space. Stay tuned and know that we miss everyone as much as you miss us! We can't wait to get back to operations soon!
