USS Oak Hill Change of Command Ceremony 2020!
Senior Chief Pinning USS OAK HILL presents ETCS Denker, ENCS Steed, OSCS Bergeron.
Farewell address to the Sailors and Families of USS OAK HILL
I have been a member of the crew of USS OAK HILL for almost three years and soon it will be time for me to depart like many before me. It has been the honor of my lifetime to have been your Executive and Commanding Officer. The privilege to command USS OAK HILL has been a humbling experience and has filled me with a sense of pride that will last the remainder of my lifetime.
The USS OAK HILL Change of Command Ceremony will be live streamed on our page at 1000 on 17 SEP 2020.
Departing is bitter sweet. Sweet because I leave OAK HILL with a sense of accomplishment, like many of my fellow shipmates, I believe OAK HILL to be the best ship in the Fleet with the best crew any Captain could ask for. I never forgot that it was because of the men and women of OAK HILL that we were and will remain great. Bitter because after almost 3 years I have to say goodbye to my fellow shipmates. I will miss serving you in the chow line, I will miss seeing your smiles, hearing about your families, your struggles, and getting to hear about your dreams and aspirations for the future. Thank you for making all the sacrifices you do everyday to serve our great country. I salute each and every one of you.
My only regret is that I didn’t get to meet the families of our Sailors, who I believe to be the bedrock of our success as Nation Protectors’. Thanks to Meg (our Ombudsman) and Lisa (our FRG President), these two ladies made sure our families were connected to the daily routine of the ship and with their direct support, many of our families avoided troubled waters especially during a unique and challenging COVID deployment. I am truly grateful.
I came to work everyday with one purpose - To serve my country and do my duty to best of my ability. My hope is that my actions made that apparent each and every day. I will leave you with a sense of deep humility and accomplishment. Humility because I was given the privilege and honor of Command which represents the pinnacle of my 30 years of Naval Service. I leave with confidence and a sense of accomplishment because I will deliver a fully trained crew and materially ready ship that is able to answer our nation’s call.
You will all remain in my thoughts and prayers as you proceed on a course that is sound, patrolling the high seas in service to our country. May God bless our crew, our families, and the United States of America.
Wishing you Fair Winds and Following Seas.
CDR Rod Jacobo
