Meet Janetta Jatczak, YOUR Coordinator for Programs and Development as well as tHRive Coordinator!

In her role as Coordinator of Programs and Development, she is responsible for planning and implementing the Chamber’s Signature Events which support the mission of the Chamber. Melissa Rose is YOUR Manager of Programs & Development and the Manager for LEAD757!

In her role as Manager of Programs and Development, she is responsible for the planning, organizing, and managing of the Chamber’s Signature Events. As Manager of LEAD757, she assists in the precise planning and top-notch ex*****on of program days for each year’s class. She also works to connect emerging business leaders to both the people and the information they need to grow in their respective careers.

She is passionate about delivering high-value and quality experiences to our members at each Chamber event. Melissa is a firm believer that face-to-face interaction is where deals are done, connections are made, and ideas are launched. She uses her business and event planning skills to excel in balancing the big picture along with the details to generate successful outcomes. She believes that to execute a world-class event you must have both collaboration and communication.

On a personal note, Melissa was raised in a Navy family but was fortunate to have remained in Hampton Roads her entire childhood. After spending more than a decade in Washington D.C. producing annual conferences and tradeshows for a variety of membership associations, Melissa is happy to be back home in Virginia Beach. She is proud to have grown up in a community that supports and champions service members, their families, and our veterans.

Join us in giving Melissa a warm Chamber welcome!

Meet the newest member of YOUR Membership Team, Gabby Fisher!

Gabby serves as the Manager of Member Engagement. In this role, she assists new chamber members with the onboarding process and is the direct point of contact for all membership-related needs.

Her goal is to use her understanding of marketing, strategic planning, and interpersonal communication skills to strengthen community relationships, promote regional economic growth, and help businesses thrive. She takes great pride in being a reliable person and knows that her integrity and strong work ethic fuel her passion for helping the business community.

Gabby is originally from San Antonio, Texas and has recently relocated to the area. Prior to her time here in the Hampton Roads, Gabby and her husband who is active-duty Navy, were stationed in central California. There, she was employed at a local Chamber of Commerce where she served as Executive Assistant to the Director and CEO.

On a personal note, Gabby looks forward to exploring Hampton Roads with her three dogs and attending pet-friendly events.

Be sure to say hello to Gabby at one of our upcoming events!

10/13/2023

The Hampton Roads Chamber is firmly committed to serving as an impactful advocate, powerful economic partner and regional collaborator. Advocating on the issues that affect the business environment is among the most important components of the Chamber’s work. We recognize, however, that in order to achieve success in the legislative environment, we need strong business-friendly leaders serving in elected office as partners.

To complement the Chamber’s work in the policy environment, the Chamber also operates a political action committee (PAC), HRBizPAC. Funded and led by Chamber members with staff support, HRBizPAC is focused on supporting issues and candidates for state office who are aligned with the Chamber’s public policy positions. The PAC is not affiliated with any political party, but rather is driven by individual action, commitment and leadership on the issues that are most important to our members.

In preparation for the upcoming elections, the HRBizPAC met to consider candidates for endorsement. In evaluating those running for office, a number of factors were particularly important this year, including:

-Commitment to protect Virginia’s Right-to-Work law
-Fiscal discipline with respect to the state budget
-Support for veterans, including workforce development
-Visible support/leadership on other specific Hampton Roads Chamber initiatives

The PAC also considered voting history (where available), access and engagement with the Chamber, and leadership positions and roles served on key committees/subcommittees.

After thoughtful consideration, the Hampton Roads Chamber’s HRBizPAC is proud to announce its endorsement of the following individuals. We know these leaders will continue to work with the business community to support policies that promote a positive business climate and economic growth and development.

A few final thoughts on the 2023 State of the Region from the report produced by the Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy.

"The pillars of the Hampton Roads economy had a good year. Defense spending flowing into the region continued to increase in 2022 and will increase in 2023. Given the discussions in Washington, DC, defense spending is likely to rise again in 2024."

Tonight, our President & CEO, Bryan K. Stephens, was asked to speak to the current cohort class of The Honor Foundation.

Bryan, a proud Army Veteran, spoke to the cohort class of active duty special operators about leadership and military transition to the business world while informing them on the many ways that Hampton Roads supports our military during & after they serve.

We encourage our business community to learn more about THF and continue to hire our veterans keeping their talent here in Hampton Roads!

"The hotel industry continues to shine."

According to the 2023 State of the Region Report produced by the Dragas Center for Economic Analysis and Policy:

"The hotel industry shone in 2022, with another record year in terms of revenue. Occupancy continued to recover from the pandemic, and hoteliers earned more revenue per available room across the region. The hotel industry continued to outperform the state and nation with regards to the pandemic recovery and looks to have another banner year in 2023."

The Hampton Roads State of the Region highlights continue!

Just look at how well our Port of Virginia is doing and how they serve as a strong pillar of our economy!

"The Port of Virginia continues to provide wind in the sails of the Hampton Roads economy. From 2010 to 2019, general cargo traffic increased from approximately 15.3 million tons to 21.9 million tons, an increase of 43.2%."

When are you going to recognize Angela’s Power List accomplishments and stop
deleting her emails?
Spent nine months deciding to call the region “The 757” because somehow everyone in the country knows where that area code is located.

Except now we are the 757 and the 948.

Faceplant.
Do NOT like 757 and no one I've asked does. Who did you survey. Just plain stupid.
I wrote this many times. I'm trying to express my feelings without being overly critical or dismissive. I'll just say I'm surprised by your choice and not at all supportive. I turned 50 yesterday. So maybe it's a generational thing. But if the idea was to get behind a brand that was recognizable, this seems the opposite. We're going to rebrand an area with hundreds of years of history, a distinctive culture, and defining geography based on social media trendiness? Is that because social media trendiness has a history of long-term predictive power?
Are you tired of reordering business cards? Everything is digital and so does your contact info need to be. What if I told you that you could have one card that will serve as your business card and have all of your social media in one place. Look no further! Please tell me you will not support the establishment of a basketball court, or two, in the Atlantic Avenue/boardwalk area, in the wide open, for beach goers to contend with the potential trouble it likely would cause. This is what I'm hearing, and it's disturbing. Any such project should be blocks away and walled or fenced off from the general public. If this thing goes up there, I'm not going back, and will inform others via the internet. This will be only a huge mistake, or a basketball Mecca. My money's on the mistake.
Ages 16 and up!!! On the spot interviews and offers!!! You may contact me personally for any questions! Children are welcome. If you cannot find childcare. You will get a guest pass for them to go to stay and play until your interview is over.
