Given that technologies run much faster than any legal framework anywhere in the World, questions about regulations have been arising as leaders in Africa pursue new technologies such as blockchain.

How will African countries regulate new technologies? Are they ready?

"Thinking about the regulations and the rules around the customer products as we understand them today and given Blockchain´s impacts on intermediaries, for instance, will Blockchain render significant parts of the prevailing regulatory framework irrelevant?
Will Blockchain revolution necessitate a regulatory revolution in terms of thought and approach?"

Should Africa regulate its trade?

"The acquisition of new technologies is very crucial for the development of the African Continent and leaders across Africa seem to have understood it.

Like many other technologies, Blockchain technologies are changing the way people do business with one another. “It presents opportunities for disruptive innovation. It enables global business transactions with less friction and more trust” (IBM).

On the 23rd and 24th May, leaders in policy, business, and academia from around the World met in Kampala, Uganda, for Africa’s largest blockchain conference. The conference was organized by The Blockchain Association of Uganda, with support from the Government of Uganda. The Africa Blockchain Conference concentrated on “the role of blockchain technology in Africa’s transformation” (The Africa Blockchain Conference 2018)."

As we pursue the "Africa We Want", Africans across the continent of Africa and in the Diaspora aspire "an Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law" as clearly stated in the Agenda 2063 of the African Union. While that is true, Africans have also understood that it is extremely important to continue to engage with other countries, learn from their experience, hear what they think about the continent of Africa and engage in bilateral relations for mutual gain.

Therefore, it was a great honor for a group of students from OU to meet with Ambassador Paul A. Folmsbee, the US Ambassador to Mali and former Executive Director of the African Affairs Bureau in the US Department of State, and engage in an open and thoughtful conversation regarding his experience in Africa.

"We are the pillars of Africa".

When we say or clamour these words with pride and dignity as an African youth we ignite the potential and capacity to serve our responsibility. What is your understanding of this thought?

Speaking to the African heart; Ubuntu, Umoja, Sankofa.

LAF thanks and welcomes everybody to this transformative educational platform to educate and discuss matters of the continent. Please also follow us on twitter; Leading Africa Forum .

LAF believes in unity amongst the youth in Africa and the diaspora as one solution to the problems we are facing in the continent today, i.e. to transform Africa.
We share these rather paraphrased wise words from one of our fathers and renowned leaders in the continent; Dr Manu Chandaria, who said "let us have a border-less Africa, and say I am African first".
