In anticipation of the severe winter storm forecast for our region, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill declared a State of Emergency, effective at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.
With the storm forecasted to bring heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions, members of the Board of Commissioners and department heads met late on Friday to coordinate response efforts, review storm projections, and ensure all municipal resources are fully prepared ahead of the weekend weather event.
Township officials announced that the Department of Public Works (DPW) has completed extensive preparations to ensure the safety of residents. DPW crews have pre-treated roadways, staged equipment throughout the township, and are prepared to operate around the clock as conditions warrant. All plows and spreaders have been inspected, fueled, and positioned, with crews ready to respond as soon as snow begins to fall and throughout the duration of the storm.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners are coordinating closely with the DPW, Police Department, and emergency management officials to monitor weather conditions and address any issues that may arise.
To remain safe, residents are urged to stay home and avoid travel if at all possible, follow all safety protocols during the storm, and remember the following:
-Park as close to the curb as possible and away from the corners in order to facilitate street cleaning and allow the DPW and police to effectively perform their jobs.
-Street sweeping is suspended until further notice.
-All sidewalks must be cleared of snow 12 hours after the storm ends.
-Do not toss snow in the street; this interferes with street cleaning and is a violation that may result in a summons.
-For emergencies during the storm, call 911. For non-emergencies call the Police Department at 201-392-2100.
The Township will continue to provide updates as the storm approaches and conditions evolve.
