✨🌑🌞Today, we're graced by the captivating beauty of a solar eclipse in the skies above North Conway! This rare cosmic event will happen at 3:29pm with a 98.7% coverage for the Mount Washington Valley. It will be the event of a lifetime! But, as with any celestial phenomenon, it's crucial to remember safety first. Here's some important information and cautionary advice:

✨Protect your eyes: Never look directly at the Sun during a solar eclipse without proper eye protection. Staring at the Sun, even for a short period, can cause permanent eye damage or blindness. Use certified solar viewing glasses or solar filters for telescopes/binoculars to observe the eclipse safely.

✨Pet safety: Keep pets indoors during the eclipse. Like humans, animals can suffer eye damage from looking directly at the Sun.

✨Traffic caution: If you plan to travel to a better viewing location, be cautious of increased traffic and potential congestion on roads. Plan your journey ahead of time and drive safely.

✨Protect cameras and devices: If you're photographing the eclipse, ensure your camera or smartphone has a proper solar filter. Without one, your device's sensor can be damaged by the intense sunlight.

In our minds Big Dave is the epitome of a MWV small business success story, embracing "fame" and arguably enjoying giving back to his beloved community even more. Dave and his wife Sue started here in 2010, and are local gems. Thank you Sue and Dave for all you do!

We were all disappointed to hear that the Handcrafters Barn in North Conway was closing their doors earlier this year. It was a local treasure, home to so many home goods, artwork, and gifts unique to the Mount Washington Valley. On the flip side, it was exciting to learn they were only moving a few miles south to a new home in Conway Village and opening under a new name, Hudson's Art, Home, & Gift Company!

We stopped in to browse their new location and trust us, it’s got that same nostalgic feeling the old store had. From New England-inspired metal works, to handcrafted mugs and jewelry, to beautiful pieces of wood art, they still have it all. Explore gift ideas for virtually any occasion and discover the charm of the MWV at Hudson’s!

Hippity hoppity, Easter is on its way! Here are some fun-filled family events happening this weekend in the Mount Washington Valley!🐰🥚🌷

The Conway Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting their 5th annual Mobile Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10am on Saturday, March 30th. Their stops include the Ham Arena, Albany Town Hall, Conway Town Hall, Pine Tree School, Davis Hill, Conway Police Department, John Fuller School and Lamplighter’s Park.

And if you are further north, the North Conway Community Center will be hosting their own egg hunt at the gazebo and playground kicking off at 10am on Saturday as well. But come early because the Easter bunny will be there at 9:15 to take pictures!📸🐰

One of the joys of New Hampshire in spring is maple sugar. Just as the ski season is ending, sugaring off begins with people collecting sap from sugar maples and boiling it down into rich maple syrup. This weekend is officially New Hampshire Maple Weekend and local sugar houses celebrate the season with open houses, demonstrations, pancake breakfasts, and sugar on snow. Maine holds its celebration, Maine Maple Sunday, next weekend, March 23 and 24. Here are five facts about maple syrup and five famoose places for you to check out.

Fun facts:
1. March is maple sugaring season because for the sap to run to make maple syrup, you need cold nights and warm days. The best temperature ranges are 20s overnight and 40s during the day.
2. European settlers learned how to make maple syrup from Native Americans who had been boiling maple water into syrup since time immemorial.
3. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple sugar. Maple sap tapped directly from trees is about 3 percent sugar to start.
4. New Hampshire produces about 125,000 to 150,000 gallons of maple syrup a year (167,000 gallons in 2022); Maine produces about four times as much as New Hampshire.
5. Maple syrup is good on just about everything. Well, we think that's a fact. You be the judge.

Owner, Heather Chase, is a Clinical Herbalist and brings her knowledge and passion to every product she chooses to sell in her store. She is proud to now share the same buying approach with her niece and general manager, Alexandra Small. The products they bring in are always GMO-free and locally sourced as often as possible. Stop in to browse their bulk selection of grains, herbs, nuts, beans, and so much more! Are you committed to being plastic-free? The Local Grocer also has shampoos and soaps as well as cleaning products sold in bulk and refilled in mason jars.

If you haven’t already, try their sit-in dining experience at the Table and Tonic café. They are open Thursday through Monday from 8a - 3p. Our favorites are the PB & Cya smoothie, the green limey juice, and the red curry chicken salad.

We stand corrected, and owe an apology to Mountain Kula Yoga, an entirely separate entity within the same building as the Local Grocer. They offer yoga classes, workshops, and events in the separate unique downstairs space.

Altogether this location truly provides a holistic approach to help you live your best life!
