From all of us at the Dartmouth Police Department, we hope you have a safe and happy holiday.

Just a few reminders:

🔴 Illegal fireworks are still illegal , no matter how pretty they may look. Setting them off in your neighborhood, is not a great idea. Let’s leave that to the professionals, and keep all your fingers and eyebrows this year.

⚪️ 911 is for EMERGENCIES, not “Where can I see fireworks ?” or “The music is too loud”.
If you need assistance, please call the business line at 508-910-1735.
If you DO have an emergency, then please call 911.

🔵 If you’re drinking alcohol, hand over your keys. It’s not worth getting pulled over, arrested, or worse.
(Some of you may want to hand over those cell phones too. 🫣)

🎆 Keep an eye on your pets. Fireworks can be scary for them and they may try to escape.
Extra snuggles and treats could help. (That last part may or may not have come from a K9🐾)

Have fun, enjoy the sunshine, and be safe!!
🇺🇸❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

DARTMOUTH POLICE DEPARTMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, July 3, 2025

Arrest Made in Domestic Violence Incident; Illegal Fi****ms and Ammunition Recovered

DARTMOUTH, MA- On Saturday, June 28, 2025, at approximately 9:30 AM, the Dartmouth Police responded to a domestic disturbance at the Dartmouth Motor Inn (DMI) located at 571 State Road in Dartmouth.

Upon arrival, a male, Nathan Faria (34) of New Bedford was detained in connection with the domestic disturbance. After further investigation, Faria was placed in custody in connection with a domestic violence incident that previously occurred in the City of New Bedford.

Following the arrest, the Dartmouth Police Department received credible information that Faria was in possession of multiple fi****ms and ammunition in his vehicle, a 2023 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck.

Based on this information, Detective Derek Sousa, who is assigned to the Dartmouth Police Departments Special Operations Division, obtained a search warrant for Faria's vehicle. The subsequent search resulted in the recovery of a Sig Sauer M400 AR-15 assault rifle, a VR80 12 gauge shotgun, (6) six fully loaded (30) thirty round high capacity AR-15 magazines, (5) five empty (30) thirty round high capacity AR-15 magazines, (4) four (10) ten round high capacity 12 gauge shotgun magazines, (2) two (5) five round 12 gauge shotgun magazines, a silencer, and thousands of rounds of assorted .556 caliber, 12 gauge , 9 MM, and 45 caliber ammunition. Faria does not possess a valid license to carry fi****ms in Massachusetts or any other state.

Faria is facing multiple charges from the New Bedford Police Department regarding the domestic violence incident in their city, and is facing the following charges from the Dartmouth Police Department:

· (2) two counts of carrying a firearm without a license
· Possessing a silencer
· Possessing ammunition without an FID card
· (15) fifteen counts of possessing a large capacity feeding device
· Violating an abuse prevention order

The Dartmouth Police Department would like to thank the City of New Bedford Police Department (Official) for their assistance in this investigation.

Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque stated “the safety of our community remains our top priority, and we are committed to thoroughly investigating all reports of domestic violence and illegal fi****ms possession. The swift recovery of these fi****ms not only prevented further harm, but sent a clear message we will not tolerate this type of threat in our community.”

🌡️☀️ Hot Weather Safety ☀️🌡️

With the temperatures expected to reach the 80’s & 90’s over the next several days, we would like to remind residents to take extra safety precautions during outdoor activities in the heat.

✔️ Stay Hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
Try to avoid or limit caffeinated drinks, sugary drinks, and alcohol which can actually dehydrate you.

✔️ Wear light-colored, light-weight, and loose-fitting clothing.

✔️ Check on elderly family members, neighbors, or those that may not have access to air conditioning.

✔️ Avoid direct exposure to the sun for long periods of time. If you’re staying outside, remember to wear sunscreen, and try to find shade when you can.

✔️ If you don’t have air conditioning, find locations where you can stay cool for a bit. Take a ride to a friend’s house, the movies, a shopping mall, a public library, or a public cooling center.

✔️ Bring your pets inside and keep them hydrated as well. 🐾

🚫 NEVER leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. Remember, seconds count.

Summertime is here—Enjoy every moment, but don’t forget to stay safe!! ☀️😎
