We celebrate September as Latin American/Hispanic month. Downtown Fort Myers hosted this event in Centennial Park. Florida has a rich cultural heritage under the five flags that brought us to the modern world of today. Most of our history was under Spanish colonialism.

I recently met with Frank Bonafilia regarding the Edison Awards held in Fort Myers. See the press release below:

Director General Yen-Feng Lei of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago was delighted to meet and exchange views with Frank Bonafilia, Executive Director of the Edison Awards; Chia-Chan Lee, President-Elect of the 40th North America Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce; Fort Myers City Councilman Liston Bochette; and colleagues of economic division of TECO in Chicago.

The two sides exchanged views on Taiwan-U.S. economic and trade relations, innovation, and technology cooperation in a warm and cordial atmosphere.

The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Centerhosted a well attended 'education fair'. The event was packed with parents and kids. These young minds are eager to learn and happy that school is commencing again.

The great novel by Patrick D. Smith about Florida, 'A Land Remembered,' is being filmed into a series by Todd Wiseman Jr. It tells the story of early pioneers who came in the 1850s by wagons to seek a new way of life. It traces several generations from cattle crackers to real estate barons set against Florida's rich cultural identity.

The City Council of Fort Myers approved a proclamation making the day of 12th of August 2026 in honor of the film maker, the novel, and to the citizens who live in Florida.

Mr. Wiseman Jr. gave a wonderful presentation about the current filming of 'A Land Remembered' with all the color and emotion of the big screen. This will be a classic multi season film which tell the story of the beauty and the challenges of the Florida experience.

I was invited to an awards ceremony in Slovenia. Little did I know that I was their feature guest for my service as an artist, Olympian, and civic leader.

Slovenia is a beautiful place. They have abundant natural resources, the cities are spotless, and the people are kind. If you ever want to get of the beaten path of tourism then consider the beauty of Slovenia 🇸🇮

The Chamber of Commerce is one of our strongest assets. They want to bring jobs here and improve the quality of life for our community.

The Chamber Awards identified leading businesses across our area and singled them out for recognition. The Chamber is a fine group of like-minded people all pulling in the right direction. Congratulations to this year's winners.

The LAB theater is a wonderful place to take in performances. It is one of the reasons that the arts flourish in Fort Myers. I attended their summer social event with great pleasure. They have fabulous actors and an excellent artistic director.

I will be blocking my calendar to join them as the season is coming quickly. Let's all get behind the LAB theater, our performance centers, and the arts!

I was the Commencement speaker for Keiser University at their graduation ceremony. The students were fabulous. I saw the inspiration and motivation in their eyes and in their hearts.

One of our best sport resources in Fort Myers is the SJC Boxing center. This is all about Steve Canton's love for the sport and his love for the young people he trains there. We just celebrated Steve Canton's 80th birthday at his gym. Happy birthday Steve!

Downtown Fort Myers is hopping all summer long. Whether it is Music Walk, Art Walk, or a special event, the streets and restaurants are full. With the extended free hours of parking everyone can join in the festivities. "Come on down" any night of the week to our Culinary District.
