This is called the Mpemba Effect, named after a Tanzanian lad that couldn't wait to make his ice cream. Instead of waiting for his boiling milk concoction to cool first, Erasto Mpemba impatiently popped it in the freezer. As a result, his ice cream chilled faster than his schoolmates.
